Field studies of the inselberg flora north-eastern Brazil have resulted in discovery much greater morphological diversity genus Ameroglossum, than previously envisaged. These enigmatic plants are endemic to isolated rock outcrops, which long been surrounded by unsuitable habitat. The forms geographically and stable cultivation when grown under similar conditions. We here provide detailed descriptions two known species propose an additional seven new genus. A taxonomic revision genus,...

Because of their fragmented nature, inselberg species are interesting biological models for studying the genetic consequences disjoint populations. Inselbergs commonly compared with oceanic islands, as most them display a marked ecological isolation from surrounding area. The these rock outcrops is reflected in high number recorded endemic and strong floristic differences between individual inselbergs adjacent habitats. We examined connectivity orchids Epidendrum cinnabarinum E. secundum...

Alstroemeria urubiciensis is an herbaceous species currently known only from a montane forest in the state of Santa Catarina, southern Brazil. It morphologically similar to A. cunha, which it differs by its greenish-yellow flowers, tepals with vinaceous longitudinal lines, and papillate bases on outer tepals. The exhibited karyotype 2n = 16, karyotypic formula 2ML + 2MS 2SML 2SMS 8A, no DAPI bands CMA located primarily at terminal regions short arms acrocentric chromosomes.

A new species of bromeliad, Tillandsia areiensis, subgenus Anoplophytum (Tillandsioideae, Bromeliaceae), is here described. The proposed taxon endemic to the highland humid enclaves Paraíba, Northeastern Brazil. Morphological and karyological characteristics this were compared with those tenuifolia, a morphologically similar species. Differences in floral traits, particularly peduncle bracts, as well cytotaxonomic markers (variations distribution heterochromatic bands), support recognition
