We report a challenging case of persistent relapsing babesiosis in an immunocompromised host that was successfully managed with atovaquone-proguanil (Malarone). Malignant B-cell transformation and immunosuppressants, such as rituximab, deplete normal B-cells which normally produce antibodies to combat Babesia infection. Treatment can be prolonged hosts. Atovaquone-proguanil (Malarone) is novel therapy used part salvage regimen antimicrobial resistance or failure exists. Weighing the risks...

Nontuberculous mycobacterial infection (NTMI), which is increasing in prevalence, challenging to diagnose and manage despite the availability of capable laboratories because subtle nonspecific clinical findings nonstandardized treatment guidelines. We aimed present our experience with lower-extremity NTMI compare characteristics outcomes between immunocompetent immunocompromised patients. To determine presentations outcomes, we reviewed electronic health records all patients treated followed...

We report a case of catheter-related bloodstream infection due to oxacillin-susceptible Staphylococcus pseudintermedius in patient receiving haemodialysis who possibly acquired the organism from her pets. Because persistent bacteremia and organism’s ability form biofilm, catheter removal antimicrobial therapy were indicated attain source control. Both clinical microbiological cure confirmed. Catheter care education should include information about pet exposure possibility zoonotic infections.

Spinal epidural abscess caused by MRSA, a life-threatening organism resistant to methicillin and other antibiotics, is rare but important infectious pathology due its potential damage the spinal cord. We present case of 74-year-old man who hematogenously seeded his entire canal from C1 sacrum with MRSA bacteria remained infected even after maximal treatment vancomycin daptomycin. Post-operative meningitis (POM) is a life-threatening complication of neurosurgery. Diagnosis often difficult due to pre-existing inflammation and antecedent antimicrobial use. Bacterial cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) cultures may reveal no growth, but empiric antibiotics are typically given the high morbidity mortality associated with POM. 16S rRNA gene PCR/sequencing molecular methodology that can identify presence bacteria regardless viability for culture.A patient presented rapid onset fever...
