Increased collagenase activity in colorectal carcinomas has recently been shown to be associated with increased malignant potential. To determine the tissue distribution of and its specific inhibitor, inhibitor metalloproteinases (TIMP), we carried out an immunohistochemical study on (n = 20), adenomas 7) normal mucosa 6). We found staining for connective stroma carcinomas, as compared mucosa. Little evidence epithelial cell was seen any tissue. In both stromal fibroblasts collagen fibres...

Adsorption–desorption reactions are important processes that affect the transport of contaminants in environment. Various empirical approaches, such as distribution coefficient and Freundlich Langmuir isotherm equations, have been used to represent adsorption. The approaches not capable accounting for effects variable chemical conditions, pH, on adsorption reactions. This can be done using models surface complexation models. These define specific species, reactions, equilibrium constants,...

Fifty-three patients who by clinical and/or histological criteria were judged to have vasculitis affecting the kidney reviewed. Patients with systemic lupus or Schönlein-Henoch purpura excluded. Segmental necrotising glomerulitis was taken as a manifestation of ('microscopic polyarteritis'). Those in whom confined glomerular capillaries compared those addition had vascular lesions outside glomeruli. The two groups found identical features. Clinical presentation predominantly extrarenal, and...

Seventy-one patients with systemic lupus erythematosus and clinical evidence of nephritis were seen during a 15-year period, followed for mean seven years. Survival was calculated to be 76 per cent at five years 57 ten from onset nephritis; 80, 65, 55 five, ten, fifteen twenty lupus. Renal biopsies showed mild or focal lesions in 30 patients, membranous 14 diffuse proliferative cent. However, there no difference the long-term outcome different histological groups. Nineteen (27 cent) died...

Abstract The potential effect on surface water pH of emissions SO X and NO from global ship routes is assessed. results indicate that regional reductions the same order magnitude as CO 2 ‐driven acidification can occur in heavily trafficked waters. These findings have important consequences for ocean chemistry, since sulfuric nitric acids formed are strong contrast to weak carbonic acid by dissolution . Our also provide background discussion expanded controls mitigate due these shipping emissions.

Shipping emissions are likely to increase significantly in the coming decades, alongside increasing emphasis on sustainability and environmental impacts of maritime transport sector. Exhaust gas cleaning systems ('scrubbers'), using seawater or fresh water as media for sulphur dioxide, progressively used by shipping companies comply with regulations. Little is known about chemical composition scrubber effluent its ecological consequences marine life biogeochemical processes. If scrubbers...

Abstract Background The RUNX1 transcription factor gene is frequently mutated in sporadic myeloid and lymphoid leukemia through translocation, point mutation or amplification. It also responsible for a familial platelet disorder with predisposition to acute (FPD-AML). disruption of the largely unknown biological pathways controlled by likely be development leukemia. We describe 49 patients who developed a nephrotic syndrome after the age of 15 years, and showed ‘minimal change’ pattern in their renal biopsies. Patients with sclerosing lesions affecting only part glomerulus were excluded, but 39 biopsies some minor changes. Glomerulosclerosis whole glomeruli was present 21 biopsies, related strongly to increasing age. Focal tubular atrophy vascular changes also common less Mesangial matrix increase not age-related, presumably is component glomerular...
