The highly remote pastoralist communities in Kaokoland, Namibia, have long been presumed to high gonorrhoea prevalence. To estimate prevalence and correlates of infection, we conducted a cross-sectional study 446 adults across 28 rural villages. Gonorrhoea status was determined from urethral vaginal swabs via qPCR assay. All participants answered closed-ended interview about demographics, sexual behaviour symptom history. Sixteen per cent had high-level infections (⩾ID(50) dose) 48%...
We identified two new Chlamydia trachomatis (CT) variants escaping Aptima Combo 2 (AC2) assay detection, in clinical specimens of patients. One had a C1514T mutation the other G1523A mutation, both within AC2 23S rRNA target region. The prevalence such among persons tested for CT England was estimated to be fewer than 0.003%.
Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) is an outcome measure for the evaluation of chlamydia screening programs. We explore PID diagnoses in specialist sexual health services (SSHSs) England to inform National Chlamydia Screening Programme, which was implemented nationally 2008.We conducted descriptive analyses using data on PID-with and without trachomatis (CT) and/or Neisseria gonorrhoeae (GC)-by age year birth, SSHSs between 2009 2019 from GUMCAD STI Surveillance System database. Rates were...
A Finnish Chlamydia trachomatis (CT) new variant was detected in 2019 that escaped detection the Hologic Aptima Combo 2 (AC2) assay due to a C1515T mutation CT 23S rRNA target region. Reflex testing of CT-negative/CT-equivocal specimens as well those positive for Neisseria gonorrhoeae (NG) with (ACT) recommended identify any variants. From June October 2019, discrepant AC2/ACT results were submitted Public Health England and screened detectable DNA using an inhouse real-time (RT)-PCR. When...

Background
In 1998 the United Kingdom Chief Medical Officer recommended action to reduce prevalence and morbidity associated with chlamydial infection. The introduction of NAAT testing from 2003 roll-out National Chlamydia Screening Programme (NCSP) in England 2004 2008 (all regions participating) resulted large increases chlamydia screening diagnoses: 2.3 million tests were reported 2010 among 15 24 year-olds, equivalent 44% women 24% men this age group. We investigated rates...
