In this paper we will present a low-phase-noise wide-tuning-range oscillator suitable for scaled CMOS processes. It switches between the two resonant modes of high-order LC resonator that consists identical tanks coupled by capacitor and transformer. The mode switching method does not add lossy to thus doubles frequency tuning range without degrading phase noise performance. Moreover, leads 3 dB lower than single tank, which provides way achieving low in process. Finally, novel using...

This paper presents a distributed multi-phase oscillator based on left-handed LC-ring. In contrast to traditional designs that couple multiple LC-tanks through MOSFETs, it uses an LC-ring as single high-order resonator generates resonant signal. By avoiding coupling MOSFETs which deteriorate phase noise significantly, can synthesize phases while maintaining the same phase-noise figure-of-merit (FoM) single-stage LC oscillator. also provides systematic way of trading power for noise.
