This study evaluated the effects of programmed treatment-integrity errors on skill acquisition for children with an autism spectrum disorder (ASD) during discrete-trial instruction (DTI). In Study 1, we identified common that occur academic in schools. 2, simultaneously manipulated 3 integrity DTI. 3, each separately Results showed participants either demonstrated slower or did not acquire target skills when included errors.
Recent advancements in telecommunication technologies make it possible to conduct a variety of healthcare services remotely (e.g., behavioral‐analytic intervention services), thereby bridging the gap between qualified providers and consumers isolated locations. In this study, web‐based telehealth were used train direct‐care staff multiple‐stimulus‐without‐replacement preference assessment. The training package included three components: (a) multimedia presentation; (b) descriptive feedback...
The present study replicates and extends previous research on the use of video modeling (VM) with voiceover instruction to train staff implement discrete‐trial (DTI). After trainees reached mastery criterion when teaching an adult confederate VM, they taught a child developmental disability using DTI. results showed that trainees' accurate implementation DTI remained high, both participants acquired new skills. These findings provide additional support VM may be effective method members conduct
Previous research supports the use of a variety error-correction procedures to facilitate skill acquisition during discrete-trial instruction. We used an adapted alternating treatments design compare effects 4 commonly on for 2 children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and 3 autism spectrum disorder. For all participants, multiple were effective; however, 1 or specific led more efficient each individual. These results highlight importance evaluating effectiveness efficiency...
Abstract In a series of three studies, we evaluated simulated data with reversal designs to determine whether partial‐interval recording (PIR) and momentary time sampling (MTS) detected changes that were evident continuous measures. The results from Study 1 showed MTS interval sizes up 30 s most the moderate large in duration events min events. By comparison, PIR 10‐s intervals approximately half all 2 only reliably small, moderate, frequency 3 generated relatively high percentage false...
Healthcare professionals and government officials have advised the use of personal protective equipment, such as face masks shields, to assist with limiting spread SARS‐CoV‐2 (COVID‐19). Due prevalence challenging behavior associated other medical routines, present study evaluated a treatment package composed graduated exposure, prompts, reinforcement, escape extinction on tolerance wearing covering for up 5 min 12 children ASD in systematic replication Cox et al. (2017) Sivaraman (2020). We...
The authors evaluated the effects of matched and unmatched stimuli on immediate subsequent engagement in targeted vocal stereotypy (Experiment 1) untargeted motor 2). Results Experiment 1 showed that (a) stimulation decreased for 8 11 participants increased only (b) 10 did not increase this participant. 2 14 participants, when or stimulus was present, after it removed, both. briefly discuss potential clinical implications using to decrease limitations findings.
We used an adapted alternating treatments design to compare skill acquisition during discrete-trial instruction using immediate reinforcement, delayed reinforcement with praise, and for 2 children autism spectrum disorder. Participants acquired the skills taught reinforcement; however, decreased efficiency effectiveness of instruction. discuss importance evaluating influence treatment-integrity errors on
The present investigation examined special education teachers' selection and use of teaching strategies for receptive identification training with children autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in their classrooms. Teachers first responded to a survey which they provided examples tasks taught classrooms, rated the efficacy strategies, described how determined whether skills were mastered, listed any assessments conducted identify relevant prerequisite prior training, selected years experience as...
Previous research comparing the effectiveness of error‐correction procedures has involved lengthy assessments that may not be practical in applied settings. We used an abbreviated assessment to compare five for four children with autism spectrum disorder or a developmental delay. During assessment, we sampled participants' responding each procedure and completed before participants reached our mastery criterion. Then, results predict most efficient participant. Next, conducted validation...
The type of procedure used to measure a target behavior may directly influence the perceived treatment outcomes. In present study, we examined different data‐analysis procedures on outcomes two commonly treatments vocal stereotypy 2 children with an autism spectrum disorder. Study 1, compared interrupted and uninterrupted during implementation response interruption redirection (RIRD). results showed that overestimated effectiveness RIRD. 2, interpretation relative effects for stereotypy....
We evaluated the effects of noncontingent reinforcement (NCR) on compliance with wearing foot orthotics and a hearing aid 2 individuals. Results showed that NCR increased participants' prescription prostheses to 100% after just few 5-min sessions, behavior change was maintained during lengthier sessions. The results are discussed in terms potential value-altering NCR.
The authors evaluated the extent to which interobserver agreement (IOA) scores, using block-by-block method for events scored with continuous duration recording (CDR), were higher when data from same sessions converted discontinuous methods. Sessions IOA scores of 89% or less CDR rescored 10-s partial interval (PIR) and momentary time sampling (MTS). Results indicated that PIR MTS consistently than based on sessions. Specifically, provided overestimations low-duration events, whereas...
Children with autism spectrum disorder are typically taught conditional discriminations using a match-to-sample arrangement. Consideration should be given to the temporal order in which antecedent stimuli (the sample and comparison stimuli) presented during trials, as various arrangements have been used extant literature. The purpose of current study was compare effects four stimulus presentation orders on acquisition auditory-visual discriminations. included participants from clinically...
Performance feedback is an effective strategy to improve and maintain therapist performance with implementing interventions. Shuler Carroll (2019) successfully used video modeling voiceover instructions (VMVO) train supervisors provide accurate a confederate guided compliance. In Study 1, we replicated by using VMVO 5 on their guided-compliance integrity. Feedback accuracy increased following maintained for 1 month. 2, extended demonstrating improvements in integrity after they received from...
Previous research has shown that low procedural fidelity can lead to decreased effectiveness and efficiency of skill acquisition during discrete-trial instruction. also found may be substantially lower when a supervisor is not present observe the session. Finding socially acceptable, effective, efficient method increase maintain high levels staff members' covert observations critical in clinic setting. The purpose current study was examine video self-monitoring increasing maintaining among...
A pink, obligately themophilic (60 C), gram-negative, nonmotile, nonsporeforming, rod-shaped bacterium with a deoxyribonucleic acid base ratio of 64 to 65 mol% guanine plus cytosine has been repeatedly isolated from slightly alkaline, man-made and natural thermal aquatic environments. This (K-2 isolate) does not appear have described previously it deposited the American Type Culture Collection as an unidentified accession no. 27599.
Abstract The extent to which a greater proportion of small behavior changes could be detected with momentary time‐sampling (MTS) was evaluated by (a) combining various interval sizes partial‐interval recording (PIR) 20 s, 30 1 min MTS and (b) using variable that were based on means s min. For each targeted percentage, low, moderate, high inter‐response times (IRTs) event‐run ratios compared reversal designs determine whether sensitivity increased either variation MTS. results showed...
The authors present a case study of an 8-year-old boy with autism who engaged in operant vomiting. Functional assessment indicated that vomiting persisted the absence social reinforcement. After interventions involving noncontingent access to preferred items, differential reinforcement other behavior (DRO), and DRO plus time out failed produce clinically significant decreases vomiting, we implemented contingent mouthwash procedure visual screen (VS) procedure. results show produced only...
