Metal artifacts in computed tomography (CT) images can cause important errors dose calculation. Algorithms developed to reduce these could improve but also introduce a bias tissues surrounding metallic implants. The purpose of this study is validate pre-commercial metal artifact reduction tool for radiotherapy treatment planning. performance the iterative (iMAR) algorithm by Siemens Healthcare evaluated on test platform. A calibration phantom constituted tissue-equivalent plastics used...
To report our long-term results with postoperative intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) in patients suffering from squamous-cell carcinoma (SCC) of the oral cavity or oropharynx.Seventy five were retrospectively analyzed. Median age was 58 years and 84 % male. 76 primaries located oropharynx. Surgery resulted negative margins (R0) 64 while 36 suffered positive (R1). Postoperative stages as follows: stage 1:4 %, 2:9 3:17 4a:69 nodes %. Perineural invasion (Pn+) extracapsular extension...
Surface-guided radiation therapy (SGRT) has been investigated intensively to ensure correct patient positioning during a course. Although the implementation is well defined for photon-beam facilities, only few analyses have published ion-beam centers. To investigate accuracy, reliability, and efficiency of SGRT used in treatments against conventional skin marks, retrospective study unique installation an ion gantry treatment room was conducted, where environment quite different therapy.There...
Absolute dosimetry in 3D with polymer gels (PG) is generally complicated and usually requires a second independent measurement conventional detectors. This why, PG are often used only for relative dosimetry. To overcome this drawback, we combine 1D thermoluminescence (TL) detector within the same measurement. The TL information then as additional calibration of gel.The PAGAT gel was combination TLD600 (LiF:Mg,Ti). detectors were attached on surface container placed inside cylindrical...
Objective. In MR-guided radiotherapy (MRgRT) for prostate cancer treatments inter-fractional anatomy changes such as bladder and rectum fillings may be corrected by an online adaption of the treatment plan. To clinically implement complex procedures, however, specific end-to-end tests are required that able to validate overall accuracy all steps from pre-treatment imaging dose delivery.Approach.In this study, test a fractionated adapted MRgRT irradiation was performed using so-called...
Background and Purpose. As shown in our previous study, highly accurate absolute dosimetry 3D is feasible by combining polymer gels (PG) with thermoluminescence (TLD). In this setup, the (TL)-based point dose information used to renormalize PG. This new PG-TLD reference system now extended measurements magnetic fields. Materials Methods. Experiments were carried out on a conventional 6 MV linear accelerator (LINAC) 0.35 T resonance (MR)-LINAC. Signal stability of TLD600 TLD700 was examined...
Abstract Objective To assess the feasibility of performing dose measurements in target (prostate) and an adjacent organ at risk (rectum) using polymer dosimetry gel thermoluminescence detectors (TLDs) anthropomorphic, deformable, multimodal pelvis phantom (ADAM PETer). Methods The 3D printed prostate surrogate ADAM PETer was filled with gel. Nine TLD600 (LiF:Mg,Ti) were installed 3 × rows on a specifically designed 3D‐printed TLD holder. holder inserted into rectum level fixed by partially...
Objective. As part of image-guided radiotherapy, ultrasound-guided radiotherapy is currently already in use and under investigation for robot assisted systems Ipsen 2021. It promises a real-time tumor localization during irradiation (intrafractional) without extra dose. The ultrasound probe held guided by robot. However, there lack basic safety mechanisms interaction strategies to enable safe clinical procedure. In this study we investigate potential positioning with...
Background and purposeCombined photon intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) sequential dose-escalated carbon ion beam therapy (IBT) is a technically advanced treatment option for head neck malignancies. We proposed evaluated an integrated planning strategy as opposed to established largely separated workflow.Materials methodsTen patients with representative malignancies of the region underwent combined carbon-photon (RT) in our facilities. Clinical plans were created according workflow...
Purpose: To present first results from an Epid based MLC QA Program done on a Siemens Artiste. Methods: In September 2010 new program started in our institute to replace previously film positioning tests with measurements. The were weekly basis using scatterblock and the Artisteˈs Epid. A SSD of 100cm was chosen allow for full maximum field size. nineteen 2cm stripes pattern found be optimum. Data evaluation MLCSoftepid, PTW, Germany. This tool analyses data all pictured leafs is intended...
Purpose: To present a method to derive absolute leaf positions from Epid measured MLC QA fields on Siemens Artiste. Methods: The 160 Artiste has unique end design. This results in varying attenuation of the beam through edge, depending field position. As flat panel based Epids show strong spectral signal dependence, image does not represent real dosimetric positions. Leaf derived data characteristic nonlinear mismatch. films taken simultaneously, referenced images by markers seen both...
