A novel zerovalent iron (ZVI) technique to simultaneously improve the production of medium-chain fatty acids (MCFAs) from waste activated sludge (WAS) and enhance WAS degradation during anaerobic fermentation was proposed in this study. Experimental results showed that selectivity MCFAs were effectively promoted when ZVI added at 1–20 g/L. The maximum 15.4 g COD (Chemical Oxygen Demand)/L 71.7% both achieved 20 g/L ZVI, being 5.3 4.8 times without (2.9 COD/L 14.9%). Additionally, also...

Bisphenol A (BPA) is putatively regarded as an environmental neurotoxicant found in everyday plastic products and materials, however, the possible neurobehavioral adverse consequences molecular mechanisms animals have not been clearly characterized. The nematode Caenorhabditis elegans has become a promising animal model for neurotoxicological researches. To investigate dose-effect relationships of BPA-induced neurotoxicity effects, locomotion behavior developmental parameters were determined...

P450 fatty acid decarboxylases represented by the unusual CYP152 peroxygenase family member OleTJE have been receiving great attention recently since these enzymes are able to catalyze simple and direct production of 1-alkenes for potential applications in biofuels biomaterials. To gain more mechanistic insights, broader substrate spectra, improved decarboxylative activities, it is demanded discover investigate decarboxylases. Here, we describe first time expression, purification, vitro...

ABSTRACT Bacillus anthracis spores, the etiological agents of anthrax, possess a loosely fitting outer layer called exosporium that is composed basal and an external hairlike nap. The filaments nap are formed by trimers collagenlike glycoprotein BclA. Multiple pentasaccharide trisaccharide side chains O linked to nonreducing terminal residue chain unusual sugar anthrose. A plausible biosynthetic pathway for anthrose biosynthesis has been proposed, antABCD operon encoding four putative...

Hepatotoxin microcystin-LR (MC-LR) can induce apoptosis in a variety of cells. However, the underlying pathways MC-LR-induced have not been well elucidated yet. To find out roles signaling response to MC-LR, germ cell corpses were scored Caenorhabditis elegans N2 wild type and strains carrying mutated alleles homologous their mammalian counterparts. We found that exposure MC-LR at 1.0 μg/L significantly increased germline N2. Germline was absent all doses ced-3 ced-4 loss-of-function...

Prodynorphin-derived peptides elicit various pathological effects including neurological dysfunction and cell death. These actions are reduced by N-methyl-d-aspartate receptor (NMDAR) but not opioid antagonists suggesting NMDAR-mediation. Here, we show that a conserved epitope (KVNSEEEEEDA) of the NR1 subunit NMDAR binds dynorphin (DYNp) noncovalently. Synthetic containing this form stable complexes with DYNp prevent potentiation NMDAR-gated currents produced DYNp. They attenuate DYNp-evoked...

Modification of RNAs, particularly at the terminals, is critical for various essential cell processes; example, uridylation implicated in tumorigenesis, proliferation, stem maintenance, and immune defense against viruses retrotransposons. Ribosomal RNAs can be regulated by antisense ribosomal siRNAs (risiRNAs), which downregulate pre-rRNAs through nuclear RNAi pathway Caenorhabditis elegans. However, biogenesis regulation risiRNAs remain obscure. Previously, we showed that 26S rRNAs are...
