Abstract Background Mortality attributable to heart failure remains high. The prevalence of in patients with diabetes mellitus ranges from 19 26%. It is estimated that up 21.1 million adults the United States have diagnosed and around 80.8 impaired fasting glucose. We investigated associations glucose (FG) insulin (FI), homeostasis model assessment-insulin resistance index (HOMA-IR) 2-h postload (2HG) (2HI) parameters left ventricular geometry function arterial stiffness determined by...
Background— The different effects of total body weight (TBW), fat-free mass (FFM), and fat (FM) on left ventricular (LV) geometry function are complex. We investigated the associations changes over time in TBW, FM, FFM with LV function. Methods Results— analyzed data from 1189 subjects (694 women), aged 44 to 86 years, baseline 5-year follow-up examination population-based SHIP (Study Health Pomerania). TBW was measured, FM were calculated based height-weight models derived bioelectrical...
Child maltreatment (CM) is linked to obesity in adulthood. However, sex-differences and direct measurements of body fat have previously been insufficiently considered this context. To assess sex-specific associations CM with anthropometric markers overweight/obesity measures fat. Analyses were conducted 4006 adults from a population-based cohort Northeastern Germany (SHIP-TREND-0). was assessed using the Childhood Trauma Questionnaire (CTQ). Obesity-related traits included indicators (i.e.,...
Abstract Background Obesity-related cardiometabolic comorbidity is common in major depressive disorder (MDD). However, sex differences and MDD recurrence may modify the MDD-obesity-link. Methods Sex-specific associations of (single [MDD S ] or recurrent episodes R ]) obesity-related traits were analyzed 4.100 adults (51.6% women) from a cross-sectional population-based cohort Germany (SHIP-Trend-0). DSM-IV-based lifetime diagnoses status obtained through diagnostic interviews. outcomes...
As the spleen plays a significant role in immunity, aim was to investigate associations of different body composition markers derived from various sources with volume general population sample.
Childhood maltreatment (CM) is linked to self-reported liver disease in adulthood. However, specific diagnostic entities, e.g., metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic (MASLD) as the most frequent chronic disease, and sex-differences have previously not been considered. Cross-sectional analyses were conducted 4188 adults from a population-based cohort Northeastern Germany after excluding individuals with excessive alcohol consumption, cirrhosis, or viral hepatitis. CM-exposure was...
Abstract Background Little is known about the clustering of behavioral health risk factors (HRFs), namely occurrence 16 specific combinations tobacco smoking, at-risk alcohol use, overweight and physical inactivity in general hospital patients. Furthermore, social inequalities HRFs, life expectancy are a major concern public health. In order to establish need for screening intervention care, study aimed determine co-occurrence HRFs patients four medical departments, investigate differences...
Little is known about the (co-)occurrence of smoking, alcohol at-risk drinking, physical inactivity and overweight, motivation to change these behavioral health risk factors (HRFs) in older general hospital patients with cardiovascular disease. Between October December 2016, all consecutively admitted aged 50 79 years were proactively recruited on 3 cardiology wards asked participate a survey HRFs behavior motivation. Of eligible patients, 80.4% participated (n = 328). The mean age was 66.5...
Abstract Purpose The aim is to investigate the associations of mother’s socioeconomic and lifestyle factors life satisfaction with delivery a small for gestational age (SGA) infant. Methods Data from 4598 participants population-based birth cohort study Survey Neonates in Pomerania (SniP) including comprehensive information on pregnancies, mothers, their offspring Western Pomerania, Germany were used this study. analyzed using linear logistic regression models. Results After analysis...
Objective: Aging, physical inactivity, and chronic disease can decrease strength muscle mass affect mobility autonomy in older adults. This study aimed to analyze the prevalence associated factors of low functional performance among adults city Pomerode, southern Brazil. Methods: is a cross-sectional population-based with data on 733 from Study Health Pomerode — SHIP-Brazil. Low was defined as handgrip ≤ 32 kg for men or 20 women and/or Timed Up Go test ≥ 11 seconds 13 women. Associations...
Physical activity (PA) assessment needs tools that are inexpensive and easy to administer. Common questionnaires inquire time spent in light, moderate, vigorous PA. However, inaccuracies may occur due individually different understanding of PA intensity levels. Alternatively used direct measures (e.g., accelerometers) susceptible reactivity bias lack the ability capture certain activities. Compared accelerometer measurement, respondents report more higher-intensity A video visualizes levels...

Self-reported physical activity differs from levels measured by device. We tested the effect of a video that visualizes intensity to increase agreement between self-reported and accelerometer-based moderate-to-vigorous (MVPA) within single-blinded, randomized study. Participants (N = 378, 40-75 years) wore an accelerometer for seven days. Prior collection data IPAQ-SF, participants were randomly assigned (1:1) control group (CG) or (VG). The outcome was absolute difference time spent in MVPA...
