We speculate that causes modify perceptions experimental situation experimenter by making less threatening more friendly. This study provides insight into use pets as adjuncts psychotherapy.

The use of a recently developed noninvasive automated blood-pressure device has revealed striking relationship between human communication and elevations in blood pressure both normotensive hypertensive individuals. Individuals with higher resting baseline pressures tended to show greater increases during talking than did those lower pressures. In some individuals 25-40% occurred within 30 sec after the initiation speech. Links difficulties surrounding are discussed.

Chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy is a common, dose-limiting side effect of cancer chemotherapeutic agents, including the vinca alkaloids such as vincristine. The resulting symptoms, which frequently include moderate to severe pain, can often be disabling. current study utilized vincristine-induced neuropathic pain animal model [Pain 93 (2001) 69], in rats were surgically implanted with mini-osmotic pumps set deliver vincristine sulfate (30 microg kg(-1)day(-1), i.v.), examine time...

Apomorphine, a nonselective dopamine receptor agonist, facilitates penile erection and is effective in patients suffering from erectile dysfunction. The specific subtype(s) responsible for its erectogenic effect not known. Here we report that the D 4 plays role regulation of function. ABT-724 selective agonist activates human receptors with an EC 50 12.4 nM 61% efficacy, no on 1 , 2 3 or 5 receptors. dose-dependently when given s.c. to conscious rats, blocked by haloperidol clozapine but...

The recent attention given to the feedback control of human brain wave activity and implications such prompts a careful analysis this phenomenon. Particular emphasis is placed on learned alpha rhythm. A review possible factors which might influence density rhythms led differentiation three general sources influence: constitutional, physiological, cognitive-attentional factors. Each these discussed as mediator view advanced that increases in during training arise from diminution those block...

A series of studies were conducted to explore various factors that might be involved in the biofeedback control human alpha rhythm. Subjects given either auditory or visual feedback regarding occurrence activity their electroencephalographic record. Additional subjects run as a noncontingent group. Significant linear increases density across trials observed all feedback, including Auditory on other hand, did not lead significant trials, and levels approached, but exceed initial...

Adenosine kinase (AK; EC 2.7.1.20) is a key intracellular enzyme regulating intra-and extracellular concentrations of adenosine (ADO), an endogenous neuromodulator, antinociceptive, and anti-inflammatory autocoid. AK inhibition provides means potentiating local tissue ADO, inhibitors may have therapeutic potential as analgesic agents. The effects ABT-702, novel, potent (IC(50) = 1.7 nM), selective non-nucleoside inhibitor were examined in rat models nociception acute inflammation. ABT-702...

Abstract OBJECTIVE The treatment of intracranial mixed germ cell tumors presents a unique challenge, since eradication malignant tumor by radiation and/or chemotherapy may spare the benign component. We reviewed our surgical experience with residual pineal after neoadjuvant therapy. METHODS Between 1987 and 1997, 16 patients were treated at Mayo Clinic protocol After diagnosis was confirmed histopathological examination, all four cycles etoposide cisplatin as well external beam therapy...
