Udamopyga Hall, 1938 sensu stricto previously comprised 20 species: three from the Nearctic Region and 17 Neotropics. A comparative morphological study of seven species so far recorded Brazil is presented, including a newly described Brazilian Atlantic Forest, squamata sp. nov., with emphasis on terminalia addition new diagnostic characters. An identification key to adults both sexes these provided.
Abstract Tropical forests are among the most biodiverse biomes on planet. Nevertheless, quantifying abundance and species richness within megadiverse groups is a significant challenge. We designed study to address this challenge by documenting variability of insect fauna across vertical canopy gradient in Central Amazonian tropical forest. Insects were sampled over two weeks using 6-m Gressitt-style Malaise traps set at five heights (0 m–32 m–8 m intervals) metal tower forest north Manaus,...
Roraima is a Brazilian state located in the northern portion of Amazon basin, with few studies regarding its biodiversity. The Ecological Station Maracá (Brazil, Roraima) harbors third largest pluvial island and composed transitional landscape savanna rainforest components. Despite ecological importance strategic localization, covered dipterofauna this locality. An updated checklist addressing 41 families true flies (Diptera) occurring presented based on literature specimens collected during...
Eight new Neotropical species of Dexosarcophaga Townsend, 1917 are described, five from Brazil, phoenix sp. nov., jandainae patiuorum petra and sphaera one Costa Rica, limon Ecuador, napo Colombia, pallida nov. Male female morphology is documented with photographs illustrations, including details the male terminalia for all With addition these species, 58 now known, records American continent spanning southern United States to northern Argentina.
A new Neotropical species of Oxysarcodexia Townsend (Diptera, Sarcophagidae) from Atlantic Forest southeastern Brazil, digitata sp. nov., is described and illustrated based on male female specimens. This resembles O. fraterna Lopes, nitida Soares & Mello-Patiu, notata vittata (Walker), xon (Dodge), but can be distinguished differences in phallic elements. Additionally, the (Dodge, 1968) redescribed illustrated, its for first time, records presented.
Abstract Three new species of DexosarcophagaTownsend, 1917 are described based on male specimens collected in Brazil, Dexosarcophaga sinoisp. nov., autisferasp. and clavissp. nov. Male morphology is represented by photographs detailed illustrations terminalia. carvalhoi (Lopes, 1980), globulosaLopes, 1946, limitata 1975), paulistana 1982b), petraSantos, Pape Mello-Patiu 2022 recorded for the first time Argentina. Also, lenkoiLopes, 1968, montana transitaTownsend, have their distribution...
Abstract Measuring species richness of tropical forests is a major challenge. Such measurement key information in many senses, from an evolutionary perspective to conservation threatened, fragile habitats. Data has gradually shown that the canopy forest hugely complex component forest, but precise assessment diversity megadiverse groups still wanting. We collected large samples insects were along period two weeks using 6-meter Gressitt-style Malaise traps set at five heights on metal tower...
Abstract Species diversity can be affected by the structure of vegetation, which may vary in height, density, and distribution trees, shrubs, other plant types, configuring different types habitats. In this study, we evaluated sarcosaprophagous Sarcophagidae communities inhabiting remnant representative habitats protected Ciervo de los Pantanos National Park: grasslands, forests, wetlands. We hypothesized that abundance flesh flies would higher grasslands wetlands than forest patches....
