The calliphorids flies comprise a heterogenous family found in all zoogeographical regions, with over 1,000 species and 150 genera described. blow have great medical veterinary importance, can be use forensic science, especially order to estimate the postmortem interval. Despite its wide distribution group presents many taxonomic problems, conflicting records regarding number of Neotropical Region. In this paper, we list Calliphoridae Americas south Mexico, based on reports literature...
The puparium of Hermetia pulchra is described, based on a single specimen reared in laboratory under controlled conditions until the emergence an adult female. H. was compared with illucens and some differential features were indicated. A checklist Brazilian species genus included, new distributional records for States Bahia Distrito Federal. sphecodes recorded first time Brazil (State Amazonas).
The black soldier-fly (Hermetia illucens) is a generalist detritivore which commonly present in corpses later stages of decomposition and may be useful forensic entomology. This paper describes the estimation postmortem interval (PMI) based on life cycle case northern Brazil. A male child was abducted from his home 42 days corpse found an advanced stage decay. Two larvae were associated with body. emerged as adults after 25-26 days. Considering development H. illucens, date oviposition...
Five Rachicerus species are recorded in Brazil: lanei Carrera, 1940, R. oliverioi lopesi marcusi 1940 and, shannoni 1945. Here I describe a new carrerai sp. nov. based on three male specimens from Brazil (Amazonia and Mato Grosso do Sul) Colombia (Chocó). The is distinguished the other known by antenna with bipectinate flagellomeres, character only fossils. conditions of Messias Carrera’s type discussed key for Brazilian provided.
The puparium of Barbiellinia hirta Bezzi, 1922 is described, based on two specimens reared in the laboratory under controlled conditions until adults emerged. larva B. second immature stage Chiromyzinae found Neotropical Region and has very distinct characters from Chiromyza vittata Wiedemann, 1820. Here we describe hirta, compare it to C. present first record parasitism Bezzi by parasitoid wasp Monomachus cubiceps Schrottky, 1911, as well updating records geographical distribution genus...
Xylophagidae is a small group of lower brachyceran flies, comprised by nine extant genera and 135 species. The family occur in all biogeographical regions, except the Afrotropics. genus Rachicerus most speciose containing 70 valid species, which accounts for just over half known species Xylophagidae. Species are considered rare, both wild scientific collections, makes it difficult to investigate individual variations, sexual dimorphism, other aspects morphology genus. Only six recorded...
Chrysomya albiceps (Wiedemann) and Hemilucilia segmentaria (Fabricius) (Diptera, Calliphoridae) used to estimate the postmortem interval in a forensic case Minas Gerais, Brazil. The corpse of man was found Brazilian highland savanna (cerrado) state Gerais. Fly larvae were collected at crime scene arrived laboratory three days afterwards. From eight pre-pupae, seven adults (Wiedemann, 1819) emerged and, from two larvae, (Fabricius, 1805) obtained. As necrophagous insects use corpses as...
Although the Cerrado is second major Brazilian biome, few studies have been undertaken about its entomofauna. Blowflies an important role in forensic entomology, helping determination of postmortem intervals. The main goal this exploratory study was to identify and catalog blowfly species associated with a pig carcass. conducted pasture Brasília, Distrito Federal. A (Sus scrofa) killed .22 caliber shot frontal region head. Adult blowflies were surveyed daily from June 1 through 30, 2004....
The intra-puparial development of the black soldier-fly, Hermetia illucens (L.) (Diptera: Stratiomyidae), was studied based on 125 pupae under controlled conditions in laboratory. 6(th) instar larvae were reared until they stopped feeding, and prepupae separated according to reduction larval length degree pigmentation sclerotization cuticle. pupal stage lasted eight days (192 hours). process pupation (larva/pupa apolysis) occurred first six hours, extroversion head thoracic appendages took...
ABSTRACT: The first case of application forensic entomology in the Brazilian Amazonia is described. corpses 26 men were found rainforest Rondonia State, Brazil. Fly larvae collected on bodies during autopsy identified as Paralucilia fulvinota (Diptera, Calliphoridae). No data or specimens at crime scene. At laboratory, developed into pupae 58 h and adults 110.5 h. total development time for P. was measured field experiments inside forest. age when from estimated difference between required...
Intra-puparial development of the females Chrysomya albiceps (Wiedemann) (Diptera, Calliphoridae). The chronology and morphological changes that take place during intra-puparial is described based on 254 specimens reared in laboratory. Larvae were obtained from eggs laid by a single female. pre-pupae separated according to reduction larval length degree pigmentation sclerotization cuticle. After pupation, 10 individuals fixed Carnoy's solution preserved 70% ethanol, every 3 hours up complete...
In April 2009, a wild maned wolf, Chrysocyon brachyurus, was captured in an area of cerrado Brasília, DF, Brazil, with screw worm maggots external wounds. Fifty larvae were bred the laboratory and eight adults Cochliomyia hominivorax (Coquerel) emerged 10 days after pupation. This is first report myiasis by C. free-living wolf Brazil.
The coffee leaf miner Leucoptera coffeella (Guérin-Mèneville & Perrottet) is a key pest in producing countries. During their development, the larvae feed on palisade parenchyma of leaves, forming mines and necrotic areas. As result, photosynthetic area plant decreases, affecting production. Despite severity damage caused by (CLM), morphological aspects larval development adult genitalia remain unknown. This work presents first description four instars L. coffeella. In each instar, we...
One of the must forensic importance insect families is Calliphoridae (Diptera) and different species this family were used to demonstrate efficiency experimental model in study. The experiments performed with domestic pig models (approximately 60 kg) Adolpho Ducke Forest Reserve (Manaus, Amazonas). To minimize effect repeated samplings same (a result pseudoreplication), two answer questions: 1) What composition temporal distribution adults? 2) that effectively colonized carcass? Six...

The intra-puparial development of the blowflies Cochliomyia macellaria (n = 310) and Lucilia cuprina 470), was studied under controlled conditions in laboratory. 3rd instar larvae were reared until they stopped feeding, pre-pupae separated according to size larval length degree pigmentation cuticle. We observe a set five continuous events or phases: (1) pupariation, (2) larva-pupa apolysis, (3) cryptocephalic pupa, (4) phanerocephalic pupa (5) pharate adult. total time development, apolysis...
Abstract Holometabolous insects undergo complete metamorphosis, and hence, they have different phases of development (egg, larva, pupa, adult), which occupy distinct ecological niches. The pupae several fly species are surrounded by the puparium, is a rigid structure, usually formed integument last larval instar. puparium presents unique characteristics from those adult phases. During intrapuparial development, it possible to distinguish at least four fundamental continuous steps, namely: 1)...
Colonization aspects of the carrion beetle Oxelytrum cayennense (Sturm) in man-size pig carcasses (~60 kg) are presented at Adolpho Ducke Forest Reserve, Manaus, Brazil. This species colonized from bloated to skeletonized stages. Adults were eventually observed preying on fly larvae second day postmortem and their fifth feeding areas, probably cleaning bones remaining soft tissues. Adult beetles with predatory behavior oldest Diptera can impact populations thereby complicate estimation time...
