Liriomyza okrae sp. n. is a new species from Brazil that does not have the yellow thoracic spots usually characteristic of genus. The specimens were collected in Rondônia state (Brazil), reared okra—Abelmoschus esculentus (L.) Moench (Malvaceae). Detailed descriptions adult male, larva and puparium are made, images male terminalia, larva, host-plant given. A key provided for Neotropical with an entirely dark thorax.
Xenomyia Malloch (Diptera, Muscidae) is a very interesting genus that includes predacious species with unusual combinations of characters. It exclusively found in the Afrotropical region and currently comprises 16 species. The recent collection hirtibasis (Bigot) South Africa, has prompted this study, which redescribed, including, for first time, morphology male female terminalia, until now known only natalensis Zielke (cercal plate surstyli) osculata Pont & Werner (male female)....
Roraima is a Brazilian state located in the northern portion of Amazon basin, with few studies regarding its biodiversity. The Ecological Station Maracá (Brazil, Roraima) harbors third largest pluvial island and composed transitional landscape savanna rainforest components. Despite ecological importance strategic localization, covered dipterofauna this locality. An updated checklist addressing 41 families true flies (Diptera) occurring presented based on literature specimens collected during...
Coenosia attenuata Stein (1903) is a predatory fly that commonly found in greenhouses and open fields preying on whiteflies, leafminers, psocopterans other insects. The species widespread the Old World its distribution has expanded recent times to Neotropical countries including Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador Peru. We report here for first time presence of C. Brazil, occurring different sites State Ceará (Northeastern Brazil). Expansion range this muscid eastern parts South America...
There are few literature publications on the species of Cerodontha Rondani, 1861 that occur in Brazil. This contrasts with situation Nearctic region and Europe, where genus is well-studied. We analyzed specimens from two important collections Brazil: Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas da Amazônia Museu Nacional, Universidade Federal do Rio Janeiro. As a result, we found describe new species: (Poemyza) teresopoliensis sp. nov. rafaelii nov., both can be recognized for some specific character, as...
Agromyza Fallén (Diptera, Agromyzidae) is a genus of leaf mining flies, including species with high economic importance. The knowledge this very poor in the neotropics, 12 known species, only six them recorded from Brazil. This paper describes two new "Cerrado" and "Pantanal" biomes records three other represented by females that could not be identified to level. We also present taxonomic key segregate 14 Neotropical species. specimens were collected Mato Grosso do Sul states are deposited...
Calycomyza hyptidis Spencer (Diptera, Agromyzidae): descriptions, redescriptions and first record in Ocimum basilicum (Lamiaceae) Brazil. All phases of the leafminer are for time described, including larva, puparium adult female. Illustrations presented male female terminalia, mine, larva pupa. The species is recorded leaves L.
Agromyzidae are a family with many species described throughout the world. The is known as leaf-miner flies, for phytophagous habits of their larvae, feeding within plant tissues. This catalogue presents 74 recorded from Colombia, distributed in 12 genera and two subfamilies. For each we present available geographical distribution country.
A new Cyrtoneuropsis Malloch from Brazil (Diptera, Muscidae). This paper presents the description of a species São Carlos, Paulo providing illustrations male and female terminalia with brief discussion on its systematic position within genus.
Abstract Species of Liriomyza Mik (Diptera: Agromyzidae) occur worldwide and are economically important leafminers. However, populations some pest species, although very similar morphologically, show highly divergent mtDNA sequences, suggesting that nominal species in fact complexes cryptic species. This study focuses on two globally invasive pests, L. huidobrensis (Blanchard) sativae Blanchard, already known to be destructive Brazilian crops, only a few studies morphological genetic...
Japanagromyza Sasakawa, 1958 (Diptera, Agromyzidae) is poorly known from Brazil, with only three species recorded. This contribution increases the knowledge of genus in where two new are described and illustrations male female adults terminalia presented. The material was collected states Mato Grosso, Grosso do Sul Rondônia deposited collections Museu de Zoologia, Universidade São Paulo Nacional, Federal Rio Janeiro.
A key to identification of the species Neotropical genus Spathipheromyia Bigot is presented. Thirteen 14 known were keyed – S. albiceps Malloch, apicalis (Stein), atra auriceps chilensis S.fuscipalpis guttipennis (Thomson), insularis magellani minuta nigra picta (Stein) and stellata Bigot. Only fenestrata (Bigot) was not by lack available information. Type material three deposited at Museum für Naturkunde der Humboldt Universität, Berlin, examined. brief diagnosis each also
Alluaudinella Giglio-Tos (Diptera, Muscidae) is a small genus with only six known species restricted to the Afrotropical region. bivittata Macquart, evanescens Stein, flavicornis lativentris pha siaeformis and stuckenbergi Paterson. They are moderate robust flies they can be mainly distinguished by color patterns of scutum. Type-material bivittata, evanescens, lativentris, phasiaeformis were examined, during scientific visit MSC Museum für Naturkunde, Berlin (Germany), where types deposited....
Agromyzidae (Insecta: Diptera) is a cosmopolitan family of acalyptrate flies, with almost 3,000 species worldwide distributed. Most are leaf miners on large number plants. Among them, Liriomyza Mik, 1894 genus leaf-miner that can cause significant damage to economically important crops and considered agricultural pests, such as sativae Blanchard, 1938 huidobrensis (Blanchard, 1926), which herein investigated. The present study deals the impact climatic factors (temperature, humidity,...
