The distribution of hepatitis C virus (HCV) genotypes was investigated in 89 HCV-infected Turkish patients. Blood samples were collected from haemodialysis patients (n = 45), chronic liver disease (CLD) 38), acute non-A, non-B (NANB) 2) and blood donors 4). HCV RNA sequences amplified the 5' non-coding region typed by restriction fragment length polymorphism analysis. predominant genotype 1b (75.3%), followed 1a (19.1%), 2 (3.4%) 4 (2.2%). While there no significant difference with respect...

Despite advances in the surgical treatment of peroneal nerve injuries, a significant fraction patients do not recover adequately. Among 35 who had previous repair nerve, 19 permanent drop foot, and 16 these underwent tibialis posterior (TP) tendon transfer. Mean duration paralysis was 26.7 (range, 7 to 192) months. TP carried anterior compartment via circumtibial route, then attached anterior, extensor hallucis longus, digitorum communis, peroneus tertius tendons using tendon-tendon...

Abstract The sensory recovery outcomes of fingertip replantations without nerve repair were retrospectively studied. Between 2000 and 2006, 112 with only arterial carried out in 98 patients. About 76 the replants survived totally, a success rate 67.8%. Evaluation was possible 31 patients (38 replantations). Sensory evaluation made Semmes–Weinstein, static dynamic two‐point discrimination, vibration sense tests. Fingertip atrophy, nail deformities, return to work also evaluated. According...

A brachioradialis muscle rerouting procedure was used to restore active supination in five children with cerebral palsy and a pronation deformity. Following release lengthening of the pronator quadratus teres muscles, respectively, tendon divided as Z plasty distal part passed through interosseous space dorsal palmar direction, then sutured its proximal end. The resulted gain 81 degrees supination.

A study was conducted to comparatively evaluate the efficiency of different solvents for dissolving gutta-percha. Halothane, chloroform, xylene, acetone, isopropyl alcohol, turpentine, oil mela-leuca and eucalyptol were used as standardized gutta-percha discs. chloroform xylene markedly superior in comparison with others. There no significant difference among three (p>0.05). Eucalyptol, turpentine melaleuca relatively less efficient. Acetone alcohol did not dissolve gutta-percha, being...

Disseminated tuberculosis with negative pulmonary findings is a diagnostic problem. Histopathological studies of bone marrow (BM) and liver (LV) biopsies are the most reliable methods for diagnosis in such cases; however, their sensitivity limited. In this retrospective study, 41 BM 7 LV paraffin-embedded biopsy specimens from clinically (clinical response to antituberculous treatment after 6 months follow-up) and/or histopathologically diagnosed were analysed detection Mycobacterium DNA by...

Background: The aim of the present study was to assess possible etiologic role human papillomaviruses (HPV) in bladder tumors. Methods: Forty‐two fresh biopsy specimens from different grades and stages tumor cases 10 normal mucosa biopsies were studied. Specimens analyzed by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) with HPV‐specific general primer set for detection viral DNA. Polymerase reaction‐positive samples also tested HPV 16‐ 18‐specific primers same method. Results: We found two (4.8%)...

Local renin-angiotensin system (RAS) may affect leukaemic cell production within the bone marrow microenvironment. Angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE), renin, and angiotensin could influence leukaemogenesis. In this study, mRNA expressions of major RAS components (ACE, angiotensinogen) in K562 human erythroleukaemia line have been searched by Real Time quantitative polymerase chain reaction. blasts are multipotential, haematopoietic malignant cells that spontaneously differentiate into...
