The objective was to compare the impact of three assistance levels different modes mechanical ventilation; neurally adjusted ventilatory assist (NAVA), proportional ventilation (PAV), and pressure support (PSV) on major features patient-ventilator interaction.PSV, NAVA, PAV were set obtain a tidal volume (VT) 6 8 ml/kg (PSV₁₀₀, NAVA₁₀₀, PAV₁₀₀) in 16 intubated patients. Assistance further decreased by 50% (PSV₅₀, NAVA₅₀, PAV₅₀) then increased (PSV₁₅₀, NAVA₁₅₀, PAV₁₅₀) with all modes....
Neurally adjusted ventilatory assist (NAVA), regulated exclusively by the electromyographic activity (EA) of diaphragm (EAdi), could affect distribution neural drive to various inspiratory muscles. The objective this study was compare EAdi, EA scalene (EAscal), and alae nasi (EAan), according mode level in 12 mechanically ventilated patients.Seven levels pressure support ventilation (PSV) NAVA were sequentially applied. EAscal, EAan quantified expressed as a percentage their maximum values....
We report a case of toxic epidermal necrolysis in 46-year-old woman on teriflunomide treatment. Such severe adverse cutaneous drug reaction with this new therapy for relapsing forms multiple sclerosis should be early recognized order to ensure the rapid withdrawal drug.
Underdosing of antibiotics is common in patients with sickle cell disease (SCD). We hypothesized that critically-ill SCD receiving cefotaxime during acute chest syndrome, the continuous infusion may outperform intermittent administration achieving pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic targets.
We report a case of succinylcholine-induced hyperkalemia in patient with mediastinal triton tumor, which is characterized by rhabdomyosarcomatous differentiation. Caution should be taken succinylcholine use patients presenting tumor or unknown cell type when histopathological diagnosis not available.
