Abstract Organic/inorganic hybrid silica membranes were prepared from 1,1,3,3‐tetraethoxy‐1,3‐dimethyl disiloxane (TEDMDS) by the sol‐gel technique with firing at 300–550°C in N 2 . TEDMDS‐derived showed high H permeance (0.3–1.1 × 10 −6 mol m −2 s −1 Pa ) low /N (∼10) and /SF 6 (∼1200) perm‐selectivity, confirming successful tuning of micropore sizes larger than TEOS‐derived membranes. 550°C increased gas permeances as well pore after air exposure 450°C. TEDMDS had an advantage size...
Art and science are separate yet interrelated. In order to feel something, an artist relies on their body’s sense organs. Using a chair as example, one is conscious of the sensation skin in contact with but cannot blood vessels being crushed, lungs compressed or uneven load spine. Indeed, designing requires scientific methodology. This line thinking underpins work Professor Yoshihiro Shimomura, Humanomics Lab, Design Research Institute, Chiba University, Japan. He conducting joint research...
To investigate the behavior of mechanomyogram (MMG) and electromyogram (EMG) signals in time frequency domains during sustained isometric contraction, MMG surface EMG were obtained simultaneously from four muscles: upper trapezius (TP), anterior deltoid (DL), biceps brachii (BB), brachioradialis (BR) 10 healthy male subjects. Experimental conditions consisted 27 combinations 9 postures [3 shoulder angles (SA): 0 degree, 30 degrees, 60 degrees 3 elbow (EA): 120 90 degrees] contraction levels:...
Recent surgical techniques have been advancing under endoscopic view and insufflation of carbon dioxide gas to expand the abdominal cavity. Isotonic fluid could be one candidate for expanding cavities facilitate maneuvering. We tested feasibility drawbacks replacement irrigating materials using a porcine model (water-filled laparoendoscopic surgery [WAFLES]).Laparoscopic cholecystectomy was performed in two models instillation sorbitol solution as irrigant. Solution irrigation through four...
Surface electromyogram (EMG), blood pressure (BP), blink rate (BR) and heart (HR) were recorded before during 4 types of mental task. The task involved 3 tasks that encompassed the memory (M), visual search (VS) color-word (CW) besides control (CT) maintaining a similar posture while focusing on single spot computer screen. Except for CW, any voluntary movement response to stimuli given not demanded. Slightly but significant increases in integrated EMG (iEMG) shown terapezius, biceps...
The purpose of this study was to evaluate muscle fatigue using electromyogram (EMG) and acoustic myogram (AMG) signals the shoulder arm muscles during sustained holding tasks, with elbow at different angles levels maximum voluntary contraction (MVC). EMG AMG four muscles, including upper trapezius (TP), anterior deltoid (DL), biceps brachii (BB), brachioradialis (BR), were recorded experiments 10 healthy young males. conducted under 9 pairs conditions: 3 (120°, 90°, 60°) * %MVC (20%, 40%,...
This article presents our recent studies on the effects of color temperature taste sense and influence bright light exposure during night rest period. Ten male Japanese ten Chinese were exposed to four illumination conditions (200, 1500 lx×3000, 7500 K). Their threshold common tastes amount saliva measured. It was found in both subjects that sensitivities sweet bitter decreased under lower illuminance condition. Under condition, sensitivity decreased. Secretion increased condition Chinese....
It has been assumed that light with a higher irradiance of pulsed blue much greater influence than lower steady light, although they have the same multiplication value and duration. We examined non-visual physiological effects determined whether it is sensed visually as being blue. Seven young male volunteers participated in study. placed circular screen (diameter 500 mm) front participants irradiated using and/or white light-emitting diodes (LEDs), we used halogen lamps standard illuminant....
The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence hedonic properties odors and attention subjects on components olfactory event-related potentials (OERP). were seven healthy male students. Two (orange eugenol) different presented via a constant-flow olfactometer during an oddball paradigm under ignore attend conditions, OERP then established. latencies not affected by qualitatively odors, whereas amplitude late positive component (P3) presentation orange significantly larger than...
Recently, mist saunas have been used in the home as a new bathing style Japan. However, there are still few reports on effects of methods recovery from muscle fatigue. Furthermore, effect sauna human physiological function has not yet revealed. Therefore, we measured including fatigue. The studied included four conditions: full immersion bath, shower, sauna, and no control. Ten men participated this study. The participants completed consecutive sessions: 30-min rest period, 10-min all out...
Time is a fundamental dimension of life. Previous studies reported that time perception affected by several physiological and psychological factors (age, gender, day, flickering stimulus, etc). Light exerts visual non-visual effects with respect to biological rhythms. However, it has not been confirmed the passage could be light environment. In this study, we investigated responses when subjects were exposed different monochromatic environments (there four conditions intensity varied...
The purpose of this study was to design an endoscopic dissector handle and objectively assess its usability. handles were designed with increased contact area between the fingers thumb eye rings, rings modified have a more perpendicular insertion angle finger midline. Four different models compared, including conventional product. Subjects performed dissection, exclusion, grasping, precision manipulation handling tasks. Electromyography subjective evaluations measured. Compared handles,...
The purpose of this study is to design a new surgical scissors handle and determine its effectiveness with various usability indices. A was designed that retains the professional grip but has shapes eye rings modified fit thumb ring finger rests for index little finger. newly traditional were compared by electromyography, subjective evaluation task performance in experiments using cutting peeling tasks. reduced muscle load both hand during closing action, left opening action through active...
Exposure to pulsed light results in non-visual physiological responses humans. The present study aims investigate whether such effects are influenced a greater extent by the intensity of lighting or power (quantity) lighting. >Twelve healthy young male participants (23 ± 0.3 years, 21–24 age range) were recruited for study. Participants exposed varying levels and quantity whose frequency was held constant across conditions, which consisted exposure blue (different intensity, quantity) white...
