Abstract Objectives Antimicrobial Stewardship Programs commonly have an in-hospital focus. Little is known about the quality of antimicrobial use in hospital outpatient clinics. We investigated extent and appropriateness prescriptions clinics three hospitals. Methods From June 2018 to January 2019, we performed ten point prevalence surveys one university two large teaching All prophylactic therapeutic were retrieved from electronic medical records. Appropriateness was defined as being...

Abstract Objectives Evaluation of the extent and appropriateness antimicrobial use is a cornerstone antibiotic stewardship programs, but it time-consuming. Documentation indication at moment prescription might be more time-efficient. We investigated real-life feasibility mandatory documentation for all hospital prescriptions quality evaluation purposes. Methods A prescription-indication format was implemented in Electronic Medical Record (EMR) three hospitals using EPIC or ChipSoft HIX...

Abstract Patients clinically suspected of community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) were randomized between ultralow-dose chest computed tomography ([ULDCT] 261 patients) and radiograph ([CXR] 231 patients). We did not find evidence that performing ULDCT instead CXR affects antibiotic treatment policy or patient outcomes. However, in a subgroup afebrile patients, there more patients diagnosed with CAP the group (ULDCT, 106 608 patients; CXR, 71 654 P = .001).

Evaluation of the appropriateness duration antimicrobial treatment is a cornerstone antibiotic stewardship programs, but it time-consuming. Furthermore, often restricted to antibiotics prescribed during hospital admission. This study aimed determine whether mandatory prescription-indication registration at moment prescribing enables reliable automated assessment therapy, including post-discharge duration, limiting need for manual chart review data validation.Antibiotic prescription and...

Abstract Objectives During the acute phase of infection, IV antibiotics are preferred to ensure adequate systemic exposure. To assess whether exposure may also be achieved with oral antibiotics, we investigated and PTA during infection after defervescence. Methods We enrolled hospitalized, non-critically ill febrile patients treated other than amoxicillin or ciprofloxacin. The study consisted two visits: when had received <24 h treatment; become afebrile. On both visits, one...

Abstract Objective Pituitary tumours that compress the optic chiasm are associated with long-term alterations in sleep–wake rhythm. This may result from damage to intrinsically photosensitive retinal ganglion cells (ipRGCs) projecting retina hypothalamic suprachiasmatic nucleus via ensure photoentrainment (i.e. synchronisation 24-h solar cycle through light). To test this hypothesis, we compared post-illumination pupil response (PIPR), a direct indicator of ipRGC function, between...

Pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic target attainment of ceftriaxone is compromised in intensive care unit (ICU) patients and non-ICU hospitalized Beira, Mozambique. Whether this also accounts for a high-income setting unknown. We therefore assessed the probability (PTA) currently recommended dosing regimen 2 g every 24 h (q24h) patient group. We performed multicentre population pharmacokinetic study adult empirically treated with intravenous ceftriaxone. During both acute phase infection (i.e....

Abstract Objectives Evaluation of the appropriateness duration antimicrobial treatment is a cornerstone antibiotic stewardship programs, but it time-consuming. Furthermore, often restricted to antibiotics prescribed during hospital admission. This study aimed determine whether mandatory prescription-indication registration enables reliable semi-automated assessment therapy, including post-discharge duration. Methods Antibiotic prescription and admission data, from 1-6-2020 31-12-2021, were...
