Abstract. This paper presents the new and now open-source version 2.1 of REgional Model INvestments Development (REMIND). REMIND, as an integrated assessment model (IAM), provides view global energy–economy–emissions system explores self-consistent transformation pathways. It describes a broad range possible futures their relation to technical socio-economic developments well policy choices. REMIND is multiregional incorporating economy detailed representation energy sector implemented in...
The Kuramoto model, despite its popularity as a mean-field theory for many synchronization phenomenon of oscillatory systems, is limited to first-order harmonic coupling phases. For higher-order coupling, there only exists low-dimensional in the thermodynamic limit. In this paper, we extend formulation used by Watanabe and Strogatz obtain description system arbitrary size identical oscillators coupled all-to-all via their modes. To demonstrate an application formulation, use second globally...

We consider the Kuramoto-Sakaguchi model of identical coupled phase oscillators with a common noisy forcing. While noise always tends to synchronize oscillators, strong repulsive coupling prevents fully synchronous state and leads nontrivial distribution oscillator phases. In previous numerical simulations, formation stable multicluster states has been observed in this regime. However, we argue here that because form partially integrable system according Watanabe-Strogatz theory, clusters is...
ABSTRACT It is well known that satellite galaxies are not isotropically distributed among their host as suggested by most interpretations of the Λ cold dark matter (ΛCDM) model. One type anisotropy recently detected in Sloan Digital Sky Survey (and seen when examining distribution satellites Local Group and Centaurus group) a tendency to be so-called lopsided. Namely, pairs (like Andromeda Milky Way) more likely inhabit region between pair, rather than on opposing sides. Although recent...
Abstract. Integrated assessment models (IAMs) are a central tool for the quantitative analysis of climate change mitigation strategies. However, due to their global, cross-sectoral and centennial scope, IAMs cannot explicitly represent temporal spatial details required properly analyze key role variable renewable energy (VRE) in decarbonizing power sector enabling emission reductions through end-use electrification. In contrast, (PSMs) can incorporate high spatiotemporal resolutions but tend...
We propose M\"obius maps as a tool to model synchronization phenomena in coupled phase oscillators. Not only does the map provide fast computation of synchronization, it also reflects underlying group structure sinusoidally continuous dynamics. study versions various known continuous-time collective dynamics, such transition Kuramoto-Sakaguchi nonidentical oscillators, chimeras two populations identical and Kuramoto-Battogtokh on ring, demonstrate similarities differences between iterated...
Supercritical Kuramoto oscillators with distributed frequencies can be separated into two disjoint groups: an ordered one locked to the mean field, and a disordered consisting of effectively decoupled oscillators-at least so in thermodynamic limit. In finite ensembles, contrast, such clear separation fails: The field fluctuates due finite-size effects thereby induces order group. This publication demonstrates this effect, similar noise-induced synchronization, purely deterministic system. We...
We study a theoretical model for the toxin-antitoxin (hok/sok) mechanism plasmid maintenance in bacteria. Toxin-antitoxin systems enforce of through post-segregational killing cells that have lost plasmid. Key to their function is tight regulation expression protein toxin by an sRNA antitoxin. Here, we focus on nonlinear nature regulatory circuit dynamics mechanism. The relies transient increase concentration rather than steady state genetic circuit. Through systematic analysis parameter...
Abstract Quantitative climate mobility research has, so far, focused primarily on change impacts migration outcomes. This focus has led to a separation between quantitative and the broader field of studies. In this paper ways are proposed for better address complexity in relationship mobility. First technical suggestions presented improve upon model setups designs highlight promising developments. Then it is argued that methodologies can broaden scope inquiries by examining how mitigation...

Decarbonizing China's energy system requires both greening the power supply and end-use electrification. While latter speeds up with electric vehicle adoption, a rapid sector transformation can be technologically institutionally challenging. Using an integrated assessment model, we analyze synergy between decarbonization electrification in net-zero pathway from perspective. We show that even slower coal phase-out, reaching high rate of 60% by 2050 is robust optimal strategy. Comparing...
Oscillatory systems under weak coupling can be described by the Kuramoto model of phase oscillators. oscillators have diverse applications ranging from phenomena such as communication between neurons and collective influences political opinions, to engineered Josephson Junctions synchronized electric power grids. This thesis includes author's contribution theoretical framework coupled understanding non-trivial N-body dynamical via their reduced mean-field dynamics. The main content this...
