Identifying large-scale patterns of variation in pollinator dependence (PD) crops is important from both basic and applied perspectives. Evidence wild plants indicates that this can be structured latitudinally. Individuals populations at high latitudes may more selfed less dependent on pollinators due to higher environmental instability overall lower temperatures, conditions affect availability. However, whether pattern similarly present remains unknown. Soybean (Glycine max), one the most...
Abstract: The morphological and cytological characteristics of nectaries Helleborus foetidus H. bocconei during the secretory period are reported. derived from modified petals secrete nectar continuously for about 20 days; they consist a single layered epidermis, nectar‐producing parenchyma photosynthesizing parenchyma. Nectar secretion is holocrine released by rupture wall cuticle each epidermal cell. two species differ in number external morphology. In foetidus, begins before anthesis rate...
Dyckia floribunda is a perennial herb from the Argentinian Chaco with extrafloral nectaries. Ants visited these nectaries while patrolling inflorescences and infructescences. We anticipated that ants attracted to might protect reproductive organs, increasing plant output. To evaluate possibility of mutualism between D. ant visitors, we determined whether ant-accessible plants showed higher seed production than ant-excluded plants. Experimental fieldwork suggested decrease in fruit set...
Pollen grains of Helleborus foetidus and H. bocconei were exposed to low temperature treatments simulate the natural events in pollen presentation these two winter flowering species analyze carbohydrate content (glucose, fructose, sucrose starch). In both species, cytoplasmic polysaccharides, monosaccharides found, while only contained starch. Polysaccharide, monosaccharide varied as exposure time varied, a decrease decreases polysaccharide increases monosaccharides. The relative quantities...
We report the ultrastructural aspects and histochemical assay regarding degenerating nucellar cells of Tillandsia during early female gametophyte development. Nucellar degeneration was observed to start somatogenesis gametophyte. Ultrastructural features process TUNEL indicated that death mechanism is genetically controlled. Mitochondria cytoplasmic vesicles persisted until cell completed. This feature represens a peculiar aspect PCD in this specific case.
The reproductive biology of six native Tillandsia species that co-occurred in woody areas Santa Fe Province (Argentina) was studied for floral biology, breeding systems and success. Flower longevity, phases, hand self- cross-pollinations or natural pollinations fluorescence microscopy observations post-pollination events were analysed. Also pollen/ovule (P/O) ratio pre-emergent success (PERS) compared between species. In T. aëranthos, ixioides meridionalis, self-pollinated flowers mostly...
Summary: Résumé: Zusammenfassung The fate and establishment of propagules Carduus acanthoides L. (plumeless thistle) under different conditions were analysed. Placing a gauze (mesh width 0.5 × 0.3 cm) greatly reduced predation, suggesting that rodents insects are the main predators, which drastically reduce population this species in open habitats. Litter fine mesh diminished predation risk. Although germinated low light conditions, they failed to estabhsh closed canopy. Establishment growth...
Abstract We used electron microscopy to investigate the fine structure of nectary secretions Helleborus foetidus . During secretion period, epidermal cells nectaries discharge whole contents cytoplasm into cavity. The external wall cell breaks, releasing as a dense aggregate that later disperses in Cell components, such chromatin, plastids, mitochondria, lipid droplets and membranes, were found nectar H. , evincing complex nature secreted material. These results confirm is holocrine type.
Schinopsis balansae Engl. is a dioecious tree; reproduction by woody samaras containing single seed. Fruit set high, even in isolated trees, empty fruits are frequent and account for high proportion of the total fruit production. To describe anatomy ontogeny seeded seedless fruits, flowers at different development stages from bagged pollen exposed were studied. The pericarp parthenocarpic did not differ. It consisted an exocarp formed sensu lato external epidermis ovary some layers...
In numerous forests, the vascular epiphytes contribute substantially to species diversity. Studies about in Wet Chaco region are very scarce. We carried out a description of epiphyte community four deciduous tree species, representative quebrachal Cuña Boscosa Santafesina: two them from upper stratum (Schinopsis balansae and Sideroxylon obtusifolium) lower one (Acacia praecox Prosopis spp.). Eight individuals each were selected, individual was divided zones (Zone I-II: main trunk; Zone III:...
The floral nectaries of Helleborus foetidus L. were studied using scanning and transmission electron microscopy, as well light microscopy. Nectaries are tubular consist an external epidermis, a photosynthesizing parenchyma, large branches vascular tissue, nectar-producing internal epidermis. epidermis is characterized by thick outer walls thin cuticle. Cells the parenchyma chloroamyloplasts. consists small cells with lobed nucleus, several vacuoles, numerous undifferentiated elongated...
Abstract The diversity and abundance of pollinators increase in cultivated areas proximity to natural seminatural habitats (pastures, forests, tree lines, etc.). Managing ecosystem services, such as insect pollination, is essential crop yields. Although pollination linked better yields many crops, are usually not considered an input be managed production. In this study, we evaluate, for the first time, influence on reproductive parameters three canola ( Brassica napus L.) stands placed at...
Abstract Aechmea distichantha, a widely-distributed facultative epiphytic bromeliad species, is present from rainforests to xerophytic forests. At its southernmost distribution (Humid Chaco) it grows in the understory and forest edges. This animal-pollinated shows high phenotypic plasticity on vegetative traits, but there no information about reproductive traits. Infructescences shade plants were heavier, had longer rachis, more spikelets, higher number of fruits/spikelet seeds/fruit than...
