Ligand-mediated targeting of DNA was validated by condensing a plasmid encoding the β-galactosidase (β-gal) gene with basic fibroblast growth factor (FGF2) that first chemically conjugated to polylysine (K). The conditions gave optimal binding this FGF2 also generated highest level β-gal expression when added target cells like COS-1, 3T3, baby hamster kidney (BHK), or endothelial cells. This activity increased in time- and dose-dependent manner dependent on inclusion complex. FGF receptor...

Extrafloral nectaries (EFNs) mediating ecologically important ant–plant protection mutualisms are especially common and unusually diverse in the Leguminosae. We present first comprehensively curated list of legume genera with EFNs, detailing illustrating their systematic phylogenetic distributions, locations on plant, morphology anatomy, basis a unified classification EFN categories time-calibrated phylogeny, incorporating 710 768 genera. This new synthesis, since Mckey (1989)’s seminal...

Over the past few decades, peanut smut, caused by Thecaphora frezzii, has evolved from an emerging disease to a major global threat production. However, critical knowledge gaps persist regarding anatomical pathways and host responses involved in infection, colonization, sporulation. This study examines pathosystem histopathology of biotrophic phase T. frezzii susceptible cv. Granoleico. Anatomical analyses were conducted using light microscopy, confocal laser scanning, scanning electron...

Gene therapy has yet to achieve reproducible clinical efficacy, due inadequate gene delivery, expression, or dose-limiting toxicity. We have developed a technology for tissue repair and regeneration that employs structural matrix DNA delivery. The holds the vector at treatment site provides scaffolding in-growth accumulation of cells efficient transfection. now report, first time, matrix-mediated delivery targeted vectors soft repair. A collagen was used deliver an adenoviral encoding...

Mithramycin is an aureolic acid-type antimicrobial and antitumor agent produced by Streptomyces argillaceus. Modifying post-polyketide synthase (PKS) tailoring enzymes involved in the production of mithramycin effective way gaining further information regarding late steps its biosynthetic pathway. In addition, new "unnatural" natural products class are likely to be produced. The role two such post-PKS enzymes, encoded mtmC mtmTIII, was investigated, four novel acid drugs, premithramycin-type...

Targeted vectors provide a number of advantages for systemic and local gene delivery strategies. Several groups have investigated the utility using various ligands to alter tropism adenovirus (Ad) vectors. We previously demonstrated that fibroblast growth factor (FGF) can specifically target DNA transfection Ad transduction through high-affinity FGF receptors (FGFRs). FGFRs are overexpressed in abnormally proliferating tissues, such as malignancies. The present studies explore effects...

Apomixis is a clonal mode of reproduction via seeds, which results from the failure meiosis and fertilization in sexual female reproductive pathway. In previous transcriptomic surveys, we identified mitogen-activated protein kinase (N46) displaying differential representation florets apomictic Paspalum notatum genotypes. Here retrieved characterized N46 full cDNA sequence floral transcriptomes. Phylogenetic analyses showed that was member YODA family, re-named QUI-GON JINN (QGJ)....

Xanthophyllomyces dendrorhous is a basidiomycete yeast that synthesizes carotenoids, mainly astaxanthin, which are of great commercial interest. Currently, there many unknown aspects related to regulatory mechanisms on the synthesis carotenoids in this yeast. Our recent studies showed changes sterol levels and composition resulted upregulation genes mevalonate pathway required for carotenoid precursors, leading increased production these pigments. Sterol Regulatory Element-Binding Proteins...
