Abstract Background Evidence for vaccine effectiveness (VE) against influenza-associated pneumonia has varied by season, location, and strain. We estimate VE hospitalization radiographically identified during 2015–2016 to 2017–2018 seasons in the US Hospitalized Adult Influenza Vaccine Effectiveness Network (HAIVEN). Methods Among adults aged ≥18 years admitted 10 hospitals acute respiratory illness (ARI), clinician-investigators used keywords from reports of chest imaging performed 3 days...
Patients with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) have an increased risk of inoculation nontyphoid Salmonella compared to the general population. While commonly manifests as gastroenteritis, bacteremia can be seen in patients HIV. We present a case disseminated Salmonellosis patient HIV complicated by bronchopleural fistula and secondary empyema. Case Presentation. A 40-year-old African American male noncompliant HAART therapy presented complaints generalized weakness, weight loss, cough,...
Non-traumatic acute subdural hematoma (SDH) in patients with scleroderma is infrequently described literature reviewing the neurologic disorders scleroderma. We report a case of patient complicated by severe pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH), and history embolism on warfarin who developed an SDH, requiring hemicraniectomy after initiating therapy IV epoprostenol. The proposed mechanisms for SDH development management strategy are discussed.
Two large major trials showed that long-term oxygen therapy (LTOT) improved mortality in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and hypoxemia. Although accelerates combustion is an obvious fire hazard, LTOT has traditionally been prescribed to veterans who are actively smoking. We conducted a retrospective chart review of all COPD at single center were new between October 2010 September 2015. Of the 158 met study criteria, 152 male. Bayesian logistic regression was used...
