To investigate epidemiology of and risk factors for laboratory-confirmed mpox during the 2022 outbreak in Nigeria, we enrolled 265 persons with suspected mpox. A total 163 (61.5%) were confirmed to have mpox; 137 (84.0%) adults, 112 (68.7%) male, 143 (87.7%) urban/semi-urban dwellers, 12 (7.4%) self-reported gay men, 3 (1.8%) female sex workers. Significant adults sexual nonsexual contact who had mpox, as well risky behavior. For children, close an mpox-positive person prior animal exposure....
Abstract Background As part of the Global Action Plan against antimicrobial resistance (AMR), countries are required to generate local evidence inform context-specific implementation national action plans AMR (NAPAR). We aimed evaluate knowledge, attitude, and practice (KAP) regarding antibiotic prescriptions (APR) among physicians in tertiary hospitals Nigeria, determine predictors KAP APR AMR. Methods In this cross-sectional study, we enrolled practicing from all six geopolitical zones...
Abstract Background We describe clinicoepidemiologic characteristics of mpox-chickenpox coinfection in Nigeria. Methods A retrospective cohort analysis was performed confirmed mpox cases Nigeria from January 2022 to March 2023. Mpox and chickenpox were by real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). Results Of 94 (60.0%) suspected cases, 56 had mpox, whom 16 (28.6%) coinfection. The median age 29 years (interquartile range, 20–37 years), 24 men (60.7%), 6 (10.7%) bisexual, 5 (8.9%) died....
Introduction: The 2022 mpox global outbreak underscores the need for an improved understanding of epidemiology, co-morbidities, and clinical management/outcome. We report a case 30-year-old Nigerian antiretroviral treatment-experienced person living with human immunodeficiency virus (PLHIV) who had PCR-confirmed chickenpox co-infection. Case presentation: patient presented generalized itchy rash three weeks antecedent low-grade fever. He no recent travel, animal exposure, or same-sex...
Healthcare worker's hands are route for cross-transmission of potentially harmful germs between patients in a healthcare facility. As hand washing is an established cost-effective measure infection control, hygiene knowledge and compliance with the recommended steps essential to control healthcare-associated infections (HCAI). We assessed practice among nurses at University Nigeria Teaching Hospital (UNTH), Enugu. A cross-sectional study was carried out from 14th September 24th December 2023...
We described the demographic/clinical characteristics and in-hospital outcome of patients with COVID-19 at University Nigeria Teaching Hospital (UNTH) during first wave to inform evidence-based responses subsequent waves in Africa. We conducted retrospective cohort analyses adult ≥18 years PCR or GeneXpert-confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection. Data was extracted from patients' medical records 1st May 30th September 2020. Based on disease severity, were either hospitalized (82) managed home (90)....

Human mpox is a re-emerging orthopox virus infection. We report 36-year-old Nigerian male who presented with one-week history of insidious onset ulcer at the base penis no associated extra-genital rash or constitutional symptoms. He had unprotected heterosexual intercourse 14 days prior to genital lesion, partner itchy vagina discharge. Physical examination revealed solitary granulating measuring 3 cm by 2.5 multiple satellite pustular lesions. No lesion was observed. Polymerase chain...
