Long-gap esophageal atresia remains a challenging condition. There are no standard guidelines on the optimal surgical approach or management strategy for potential postoperative complications. We report case of long-gap EA treated by staged thoracoscopic repair in which chest drain caused complication. A female with prenatal diagnosis polyhydramnios and small stomach suspicious was delivered cesarean section at 33 weeks gestation. The orogastric tube remained coiled upper esophagus,...

Introduction: Robotic-assisted surgery (RAS) is increasingly used in adulthood but its application pediatric population limited. We report our initial experience RAS, focusing on conversions to analyze their causes. Methods: All patients who underwent RAS between June 2015 and April 2019 were included, analyzing demographics, comorbidities, previous surgery, intraoperative surgical anesthetic parameters. A three-arms robotic technique was all cases. Additional laparoscopic ports added, when...

A major worry of juvenile penile LS is potential malignant degeneration to spinocellular carcinoma (SCC) in adulthood. characterized by increased CD8+ and CD57+ cells, dermal sclerosis, epidermal atrophy, hyperkeratosis. p53 Ki67 are reliable premalignant markers. Our aim was define the immunohistochemical profile foreskin children, focusing on tissue immune response cell proliferation.Thirty specimens foreskins removed from pediatric patients during circumcision were included: six ritual...

Over the past years, healthcare methodologies were commonly applied to all patients affected by same pathology as an overall treatment. However, recent scientific works mainly aimed at personalized care, according patient's clinical conditions and morphological characteristics. Pediatric surgery was also involved in this process, although laparoscopy has been set aside so far. In regard, physical characteristic that correlates intra-abdominal pressure volume (i.e., abdominal com-pliance)...

The aim was to retrospectively evaluate our experience in a large series of patients affected by isolated congenital ventral penile curvature, surgically treated using previously described modified incisional corporoplasty. Two hundred and six with curvature underwent Mean age at surgery 20.7 ± 5.5 years, degree 60 23°. After the point maximum convexity identification, Buck's fascia vertically opened along deep dorsal vein, which partially ligated, resected removed. Tunica albuginea then...

Introduction: In children, the association of ipsilateral pyeloureteral junction obstruction (PUJO) and ureterovesical (UVJO) is a rare malformation with non-standardized treatment. We report case PUJO UVJO treated by combined minimally invasive surgical treatment to resolve double urinary obstruction. The current literature was also reviewed. Case review: A two-month-old boy, without antenatal postnatal signs tract anomalies, hospitalized presenting right hydronephrosis, perirenal fluid...

Background and Aim: Ex vivo fluorescence confocal microscopy (FCM) systems are innovative optical imaging tools that create virtual high-resolution histological images without any standard tissue processing, either freezing or fixing in formalin embedding paraffin. These have opened an era would revolutionize pathological examination by providing rapid, real-time assessments across various pathology subspecialties, potentially replacing conventional methods tissue- time-consuming. This study...

During laparoscopic surgery, carbon dioxide is insufflated for expanding the abdominal volume. However, compliance identifies critical point over Pressure-Volume (P-V) curve beyond which patient exposed to harmful effects. Calculating this is, therefore, critical. We aim model a P-V pediatric patients by fitting sigmoidal equation with Levenberg-Marquardt algorithm.
