The survey description and the near-, mid-, far-infrared flux properties are presented for 258 galaxies in Local Volume Legacy (LVL). LVL is a Spitzer Space Telescope legacy program that surveys local universe out to 11 Mpc, built upon foundation of ultraviolet, Hα, Hubble imaging from 11HUGS (11 Mpc Hα Ultraviolet Galaxy Survey) ANGST (ACS Nearby Survey Treasury). covers an unbiased, representative, statistically robust sample nearby star-forming galaxies, exploiting highest extragalactic...
Spitzer data at 24, 70, and 160 μm ground-based Hα images are analyzed for a sample of 189 nearby star-forming starburst galaxies to investigate whether reliable star formation rate (SFR) indicators can be defined using the monochromatic infrared dust emission centered 70 μm. We compare recently published recipes SFR measures combinations 24 observed luminosities with those luminosity alone. From these comparisons, we derive reference indicator use in our analysis. Linear correlations...
We present results from an ongoing programme to study the dust and ionized gas in E/S0 galaxies with lanes. Our data, together previous studies of galaxies, are used demonstrate close relationship between these two components. This is discussed light our current understanding nature origin interstellar medium (ISM), particular context interplay different multi-temperature show that focusing on obscured regions as tracers ISM, their properties, serves independent evidence for external gas.
A range of socioeconomic factors, including income distribution, productivity and land use policies, are thought to influence the development contemporary multifamily housing markets in United States. Focusing on Washington, DC, as a case study, we data from American Community Survey assemble panel datasets for years 2010–2019. Through spatial regression analysis, explore which measures policies associated with effective supply tenant-occupied housing. We interpret our findings considering...
Abstract This study analyzes smallholder farmers’ decisions to adopt beans with higher levels of dietary iron developed through a conventional breeding technique called biofortification. We approach this by applying spatial econometric techniques estimate neighborhood influence and determine the factors driving adoption iron‐biofortified (IBB). employ cross‐sectional, nationally representative survey bean producing households from 2015 growing season B in Rwanda, present results for growers...
We present narrow-band observations of the H$α$ emission in a sample 31 satellite orbiting isolated giant spiral galaxies. The studied spans range $-19
The Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI) research assumes that we live in an intelligence-friendly universe. But do a spiritual-friendly universe? We include the spiritual quest new multidisciplinary approach to SETI. In thought experiment, consider two types of alien civilizations by including Spiritual factor Drake Equation. Using analogy planetary biomarkers and concept noosphere introduced Teilhard de Chardin, propose markers could evidence presence exoplanet.
Abstract In this work we address the problem of estimating probabilities causal contacts between civilizations in Galaxy. We make no assumptions regarding origin and evolution intelligent life. simply assume a network causally connected nodes. These nodes refer somehow to agents with capacity receiving emitting electromagnetic signals. Here present three-parametric statistical Monte Carlo model simplified sketch Our goal, using simulations, is explore parameter space analyse contacts. find...
Using Hubble Space Telescope archival images we resolved individual stars in two young globular clusters centered the giant HII region Sersic 13, on dust band of NGC 5128. We 5 sources southern cluster and 4 northern one. The high U luminosity these () added to previously detected WR features integrated spectra suggest are identifying most massive clusters, with O or spectral types, whose masses can even reach 120 . have estimated their ages yr for comparison different set isochrones, which...
We present preliminary results from spectroscopic observations of a sample 11 low surface brightness galaxies (LSB). measured the stellar and gaseous kinematics along their major minor axes. Such information will allow us to accurately investigate dark matter (DM) content within optical regions, providing further constraints on predictions standard CDM models. Although dynamical modeling is still in progress, our already show that derived more regular than ionized gas one, which often shows...
