Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are some of the most common in both community and hospital settings infections. With their high rate incidence, recurrence, complications, diverse etiologic agents, as well growing antibiotic resistance, UTIs have proven to be a serious challenge for medical professionals. The aim this study was obtain data on susceptibility patterns pathogens responsible Poland currently used antibiotics. A total 396 bacterial isolates were collected between March May 2013...

The purpose of this study was to perform an analysis Streptococcus suis human invasive isolates, collected in Poland by the National Reference Centre for Bacterial Meningitis. Isolates obtained from 21 patients during 2000-2013 were investigated phenotypic tests, multilocus sequence typing (MLST), TR9 locus variable number tandem repeat (VNTR) (MLVA) scheme and pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE) SmaI-digested DNA. Determinants virulence antimicrobial resistance detected polymerase chain...

An outbreak of mupirocin-resistant (MuR) staphylococci was investigated in two wards a large hospital Warsaw, Poland. Fifty-three MuR isolates Staphylococcus aureus, S. epidermidis, haemolyticus, xylosus, and capitis were identified over 17-month survey which carried out after introduction the drug for treatment skin infections. The collected from patients with infections, environmental samples, carriers; they constituted 19.5% all staphylococcal during that time. Almost also resistant to...

This study was conducted to compare of the yeasts identification results obtained with two new systems using MALDI-TOF MS technique ones routine methods Candida spp. in clinical microbiology laboratories. All 124 isolates were recovered from examination specimens microbiological laboratories and collected Centre Quality Control Microbiology Warsaw (Poland). Our findings confirm high agreement (98%) fungal standard, biochemistry laboratory mass spectrometry technique.

Streptococcus anginosus, intermedius and constellatus form a group of related streptococcal species, namely the Anginosus Group (SAG). The group, previously called "milleri" had been rarely described until 1980/1990 as source infections. Nowadays SAG bacteria are often pathogens causing predominantly purulent number infections is highly underestimated, strains classified in microbiology laboratory less virulent "viridans streptococci" Epidemiological situation regarding Poland has...

The aim of this study was to evaluate the usefulness chromogenic media for isolation bacteria from urine and direct identification UTI pathogens. A total 100 specimens were inoculated on blood agar MacConkey as a reference method following be tested: chromID® CPS® Elite (CPSE, bioMérieux), CHROMagarTM Orientation (BioMaxima), BD CHROMagar Medium (ORI, Becton Dickinson), (ORIE, Graso) Brillance Clarity Agar (UTI C, Oxoid). Infectious complications caused by multidrug-resistant bacteria are a serious clinical and therapeutic problem. Our study aimed to analyze the genetic characteristics of extended-spectrum β-lactamase-producing Enterobacterales (ESBL-E) that cause infections in patients with solid tumors. Identification ESBL-encoding genes was performed polymerase chain reaction (PCR) sequencing. The clonal relationship isolates evaluated pulsed-field gel electrophoresis. Multilocus sequence typing (MLST)...

The strains collected in 12 hospitals all over Poland within a period of nine months. Strains analyzed for eight genes the mcr family. presence mcr-1 gene was detected three Escherichia coli strains. 45/65 identified as ESBL producers. CTX-M-1-like enzymes most common ESBLs (n = 40). One E. and seven Klebsiella pneumoniae produced carbapenemases, with NDM being by five isolates....
