Simulium (Gomphostilbia) marosense sp. nov. is described based on adults, pupae and mature larvae from Sulawesi, Indonesia. This new species placed in the duolongum subgroup of S. batoense species-group, representing ninth member for Sulawesi. characterized by a narrow female frons pupal gill with eight filaments, which two filaments ventral pair are 1.9-3.0 times as long six other filaments. Taxonomic notes provided to distinguish this related species.
Up to three nominal species of the cyprinid fish genus Poropuntius (i.e. P. deauratus [Valenciennes in Cuvier Valenciennes 1842], normani [Smith 1931], and smedleyi [de Beaufort 1933]) have been reported occur Peninsular Malaysian freshwater ecosystems. However, low morphological differentiation among causes confusion it is still unknown how many valid this region. The goal study review taxonomic status Malaysia by using molecular characters. Principal Component Analysis (PCA) on a...
Simulium (Gomphostilbia) lemborense sp. nov. is described based on adults, pupae and mature larvae from Flores, in the eastern part of Sunda Archipelago, Indonesia. This new species placed batoense species-group subgenus Gomphostilbia Enderlein, representing most distribution record for group. characterized by a narrow female frons pupal gill with eight filaments, which two filaments ventral pair are three to four times as long six other filaments. Taxonomic notes provided distinguish this...
This study presents an updated fish checklist of the Sultan Idris Shah Forestry Education Centre (SISFEC), Puchong, Selangor, Malaysia. Fish samples were collected using gill nets, cast scoop baited lines, and electrofishers at eight sites within SISFEC, including Rasau River, Bohol several lentic water bodies. There are 29 species, representing 13 families freshwater fish, with family Danionidae (six species) dominating list. Of species recorded, six non-native, Oreochromis niloticus,...
The seagrass meadows are critical for organic carbon storage and play a significant role in mitigating climate change. However, the ongoing degradation of Thailand reduces their ability to sequester effectively, potentially contributing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. This study examines variations storage, metabolism, GHG emissions across degraded, healthy bare sand areas along Andaman Sea, Thailand. average within surface sediment (top 10 cm) varies conditions, with highest heavy degraded...
DNA barcoding is a valuable taxonomic tool for rapid and accurate species identification cryptic discovery in black flies. Indonesia has 143 nominal of flies, but information on their biological aspects, including vectorial capacity biting habits, remains underreported, part because problems. The current study represents the first comprehensive Indonesian flies using mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (COI) gene sequences.Genomic fly samples were extracted sequenced, producing 86...
Porous structured silicon or porous (PS) powder was prepared by chemical etching of in an etchant solution HF: HNO₃: H₂O (1:3:5 v/v). An immersion time 4 min sufficient for depositing Cu metal from aqueous CuSO₄ the presence HF. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analysis revealed that particles aggregated upon increase content 3.3 wt% to 9.8 wt%. H₂-temperature programmed reduction (H₂-TPR) profiles reveal re-oxidation occurs after deposition. Furthermore, denote existence various sizes on...
Abstract The ornamental fish trade has been considered as one of the most important routes invasive alien introduction into native freshwater ecosystems. Therefore, species composition and invasion risks from 60 pet stores in Klang Valley, Malaysia were studied. A checklist taxa belonging to 18 orders, 53 families, 251 fishes was documented. Fish Invasiveness Screening Test (FIST) showed that seven (30.43%), eight (34.78%) be high, medium low risks, respectively. After calibration Kit (FISK)...
Bats are important flagship species for biodiversity research; however, diversity in Southeast Asia is considerably underestimated the current checklists and field guides. Incorporation of DNA barcoding into surveys has revealed numerous species-level taxa overlooked by conventional methods. Inclusion these inventories provides a more informative record diversity, but problematic as lack formal description. We investigated how frequently documented, undescribed, bat encountered Peninsular...
Invasive introduced fish species are well known for their deleterious impacts on aquatic biodiversity and environment. This study provides the first report occurrence of Amazon sailfin catfish, Pterygoplichthys pardalis from Gombak basin, Selangor, Malaysia, where suckermouth Hypostomus plecostomus vermiculated disjunctivus had been previously reported. Besides, selected morphometric meristic measurements between P. Pusu River, basin were compared. Moreover, we also described two body...
Black flies play a prominent role in public health and the epidemiology of parasitic diseases humans, domesticated wild animals. Correct identification comprehensive survey are required to identify vector pest species thus understand their biological attributes which vital monitoring program. DNA barcoding is an established molecular tool that provides rapid accurate identification. Our study strengthens database for black Malaysia by adding 59 cytochrome c oxidase I sequences 22 species, 14...
Ayer Hitam Utara State Park Forest (AHUSPF) is an invaluable sanctuary in Johor, the last remaining intact peat swamp forest reserve that hosts many species unique to this distinctive habitat. Some rapid surveys conducted from 2019 2022 recorded 40 of freshwater fish within AHUSPF. Notably, 11 are stenotopic acid blackwater, and 12 water, most belonging family Osphronemidae Danionidae. The International Union for Conservation Nature Red List has designated two species, Encheloclarias...
Invasive fish species pose several threats to aquatic biodiversity and health, necessitating a good understanding of their biology ecology. This study aims understand the invasive collected from Langat River tributary, Selangor, focusing on growth, reproduction, feeding habits. Fish water samples were between March August 2022. A total 171 specimens recorded, including 71, 55, 45 individuals Pterygoplichthys disjunctivus, P. pardalis, Oreochromis sp. The b values for length-weight...
Despite the importance of diet in avian ecology, knowledge bird tropical regions, particularly South-East Asia, is limited. Assessing predator–prey relationships how energy flows across ecosystems provides insight into niche segregation sympatric species. We examined induced-regurgitation samples from 15 species insectivorous birds – 12 babblers and three flycatcher-like Krau Wildlife Reserve, central Peninsular Malaysia. The main objective this study was to compare characterise similar...
This study explores the potential effects of alien fishes on native fish community, well-being, and tropic preferences in selected rivers Klang Valley, Malaysia. Following Aquatic Species Invasiveness Screening Kit assessment, most (80%) are invasive. The species occurrences correlated positively (p < 0.05) with poor water quality, such as high ammonia-nitrogen nitrite, but negatively phosphate dissolved oxygen. Anthropogenic characteristics, pollution levels ease accessibility to...
The variability in the stenotopic miniature rasborine Boraras maculatus (Cypriniformes: Danionidae: Rasborinae) across acidic-water habitats of Peninsular Malaysia (PM) was investigated using two molecular markers (the mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit I [COI] gene and nuclear rhodopsin gene), as well morphological evidence. Molecular phylogenetic analyses revealed differentiation among populations B. PM with distinction four allopatric lineages. Each them recognized a putative...
