Cardiovascular disease (CVD) prevalence remains elevated globally. We have previously shown that a one-week lifestyle "immersion program" leads to clinical improvements and sustained in quality of life moderate high atherosclerotic CVD (ASCVD) risk individuals. In subsequent year this similarly modeled immersion program, we again collected markers cardiovascular health and, additionally, evaluated intestinal microbiome composition. ASCVD volunteers (

Objective: This study determined whether older adults who consumed a probiotic mixture would have greater proportion of circulating CD4+ lymphocytes, altered cytokine production, and shift in intestinal microbiota toward healthier microbial community.

A probiotic formulation of Enterococcus faecium R0026 and Bacillus subtilis R0179 has been evaluated in previous clinical trials. However, B. not as a single strain or combination with other strains at doses higher than 0.1×10 9 cfu. To establish oral dose-response tolerance gastrointestinal (GI) viability R0179, randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial healthy adults (n=81; 18-50 years old) was conducted. Participants received 0.1, 1.0 10×10 cfu/capsule/day placebo for four weeks....

Microbial metabolism in the gut may alter human bile acid a way that beneficially affects lipid homeostasis and therefore cardiovascular disease risk. Deconjugation of acids by microbes is thought to be key this mechanism but has yet characterised blood stool while observing markers. The aim study was determine effect 3 different probiotic strains on plasma context glucose metabolism. In 18-week, randomised, double-blind crossover study, healthy adults (53±8 years) with high waist...

Psychological stress is associated with gastrointestinal (GI) distress. This secondary analysis from a randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled study examined whether three different probiotics could normalise self-reported stress-associated GI discomfort and reduce overall stress. Undergraduate students (n=581) received Lactobacillus helveticus R0052, Bifidobacterium longum ssp. infantis R0033 , bifidum R0071, or placebo. Participants 2 outcomes for 6-week period, which included final...

The American Association for the Study of Liver Disease recommends screening patients with cirrhosis hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) using imaging or without alpha-fetoprotein every six months. Unfortunately, rates remain inadequate. To assess root causes failure in a subspecialty hepatology clinic. The authors identified seen clinic and determined whether they underwent appropriate screening, defined as two cross-sectional images between five seven months apart. characterized primary driver...

The aim of the studies was to determine effects calcium carbonate and phosphate supplementation on faecal Lactobacillus spp., with without a probiotic supplement, in healthy adults. Study 1 comprised randomised, double-blind, crossover design; participants (n=15) received 2 capsules/d 250 mg elemental as (Ca1) (Ca2) each for 2-week periods, baseline washout periods. (n=17) helveticus R0052 rhamnosus R0011 (probiotic) alone, Ca1, Ca2 periods In both studies, stools were collected during...

Background Recent advances in our understanding of the contributions gut microbiota to host metabolism have renewed research interest how distortions activities correlate with health status. While extensive surveys already revealed complexity dynamics there is a need better understand mechanisms through which can affect metabolism. We recently shown that amount energy available after intake resistant maltodextrin varies among individuals and associated microbiota. Here we hypothesized i)...

This randomized, placebo-controlled, double-blind, parallel trial investigated whether generally healthy adult, nonelite runners would have a greater time-to-exhaustion during submaximal treadmill running with probiotic versus placebo supplementation. It was hypothesized that the impact training progression by reducing gastrointestinal (GI) and cold/flu symptoms. Participants who typically ran ≥24 km/week, or cross-trained 3–5 days per week, had maximal oxygen intake (V̇O 2 max) in 60–85th...

Background Patients require vitamin and mineral supplementation after bariatric surgery to prevent the development of micronutrient deficiencies. Consuming oral supplements is challenging due gastric volume restriction. A transdermal patch dosage form may provide adequate without pill burden. The study aims determine percentage patients who have two or more nutritional deficiencies one year serum nutrient concentrations gastrointestinal symptoms over time. Methods planned undergo preferred...

Background Probiotics have been shown to transiently modify the intestinal microbiota by favoring growth of endogenous bacteria possessing bile salt hydrolase (BSH) activity. The BSH activity promotes deconjugation and excretion acids shifts metabolism from cholesterol synthesis formation, thereby attenuating systemic levels decreasing risk cardiovascular diseases. Objective aim this study was determine effect 3 different probiotic strains on acid glucose metabolism. Methods In a randomized,...
