Noninvasive ventilation (NIV) has been associated with lower rates of endotracheal intubation in populations patients acute respiratory failure. To compare NIV standard treatment using supplemental oxygen administration to avoid recipients solid organ transplantation hypoxemic failure.Prospective randomized study conducted at a 14-bed, general intensive care unit university hospital.Of 238 who underwent from December 1995 October 1997, 51 were treated for failure. Of these, 40 eligible and 20...

Abstract Introduction Total hip replacement is one of the most commonly performed major orthopaedic operations. Goal-directed therapy (GDT) using haemodynamic monitoring has previously demonstrated outcome benefits in high-risk surgical patients under general anaesthesia. GDT never been formally assessed during regional Methods Patients undergoing total while anaesthesia were randomised to either control group (CTRL) or protocol (GDT). group, addition standard monitoring, connected FloTrac...

The portal vein flow (PVF), pressure (PVP), and hepatic venous gradient (HVPG) were prospectively assessed to explore their relationships better define hyperflow hypertension (PHT) during liver transplantation (LT). Eighty-one LT procedures analyzed. No correlation between PVF PVP was observed. Increases in the central (CVP) transmitted (58%, range = 25%-91%, P 0.001). Severe PHT (HVPG ≥ 15 mm Hg) showed a significant reciprocal association with high (P 0.023) lower graft survival 0.04)....

Objectives To compare physicochemical characteristics and in vitro vivo contrast-enhanced ultrasound imaging performance of 3 commercially available contrast agents: SonoVue (Bracco Imaging SpA, Colleretto Giacosa, Italy; also marketed as Lumason the USA), Definity (Lantheus Medical Imaging, North Billerica, MA) Optison (GE Healthcare AS, Oslo, Norway). Methods Physicochemical were measured with a Multisizer Coulter Counter (Beckman Coulter, Fullerton, CA). Two systems (Aplio 500; Toshiba...

In this study, during lung transplantation, we analyzed a conventional preload index, the pulmonary artery occlusion pressure (PAOP), and new intrathoracic blood volume index (ITBVI), derived from single-indicator transpulmonary dilution technique (PiCCO System), with respect to stroke (SVIpa). We also evaluated relationships between changes (Δ) in ITBVI PAOP ΔSVIpa transplantation. The reproducibility precision of all cardiac measurements obtained (CIart) thermodilution (CIpa) were...

Perfusion quantification software commonly analyzes log-compressed video images provided by ultrasound systems. Compared to analysis of raw RF signals, errors in perfusion parameter estimates may be introduced, even when proper linearization is applied reverse the log-compression. In this work, effects log-compression, demodulation, scan conversion and 8-bit quantization have been investigated, terms introduced on estimates. An in-vivo contrast bolus sequence was processed using both data...

Background and objective: Liver transplantation is characterized by several changes in intravascular blood volume due to vasodilatation based on neurohumoral mediators, intraoperative bleeding anaesthesia technique effects. Today, with the transpulmonary indicator dilution technique, cardiac index (CIart) can be evaluated preload assessed terms of intrathoracic (ITBVI). The aim was analyse patients undergoing liver two variables, pulmonary artery occlusion pressure (PAOP) ITBVI respect...

The interaction of systemic hemodynamics with hepatic flows at the time liver transplantation (LT) has not been studied in a prospective uniform way for different types grafts. We prospectively evaluated intraoperative 103 whole and partial LT. Liver graft were measured using ultrasound transit method to obtain portal (PVF) arterial (HAF) flow. Measurements recorded on native liver, portocaval shunt, following reperfusion after biliary anastomosis. After LT HAF PVF do immediately return...
