Topical route of administration is the most commonly used method for treatment ophthalmic diseases. However, presence several layers permeation barriers starting from tear film till inner cornea make it difficult to achieve therapeutic concentrations in target tissue within eye. In order circumvent these and provide sustained targeted drug delivery, tremendous advances have been made developing efficient safe delivery systems. Liposomes due their unique structure prove be extremely...

This reflection paper describes the implementation of Team-Based Learning (TBL) in pharmacology curriculum for first-year MBBS students at Faculty Medicine, UiTM during Musculoskeletal (MSK) module. TBL was primarily introduced to overcome challenges and limitations inherent traditional tutorial methods, including a shortage teaching staff lack an interactive, student-centred learning approach. The format consists Individual Readiness Assurance Test (iRAT), Team (tRAT), appeal session...

Steroid-induced ocular hypertension is currently treated in the same way as primary open-angle glaucoma. However, treatment often suboptimal and associated with adverse effects. We evaluated oculohypotensive effects of topical trans-resveratrol rats steroid-induced involvement adenosine receptors (AR) intraocular pressure (IOP) lowering effect trans-resveratrol.The unilateral single-drop application various concentrations was first studied oculonormotensive rats. Concentration maximum...

Deposition of extracellular matrix (ECM) in the trabecular meshwork (TM) increases aqueous humour outflow resistance leading to elevation intraocular pressure (IOP) primary open-angle glaucoma, which remains only modifiable risk factor. Resveratrol has been shown counteract steroid-induced increase IOP and TM expression ECM proteolytic enzymes; however, its effects on deposition components by associated pathways, such as TGF-β-SMAD signalling remain uncertain. This study, therefore, explored

Purpose: Renin–angiotensin system (RAS) is expressed in neuronal tissue and plays a role neurodegenerative diseases involving excitotoxicity as pathophysiological mechanism. In retina, excessive excitatory neurotransmission via N-methyl-d-aspartate (NMDA) receptors underlies apoptosis conditions like glaucoma. However, it not known if NMDA-mediated alters retinal RAS expression. Hence, this study investigated the effect of NMDA exposure on expression rat retinas.

Glaucoma is an optic neuropathy characterised by nerve degeneration associated with visual field defects. It remains the world’s number one cause of irreversible blindness and patients usually present at late stage disease since it generally asymptomatic until severe. The subdivided into primary secondary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) being most common type. At present, lowering intraocular pressure (IOP) only proven efficient approach in delaying onset or preventing progression disease....

ET1 is the most potent vasoconstrictive peptide and there evidence suggesting its important role in retinal degeneration. It hypothesised that ET1-induced vascular changes may lead to ischemia excitotoxicity, pathophysiological factors glaucoma.Remarkably, almost all components of renin-angiotensinaldosterone system (RAAS) are expressed retina play a crucial fate ischemic tissue; however, effect on RAAS expression remains unclear. The objective current study was investigate at dose 200 pmol...
