Carbon nanospheres (CNSs) were prepared by hydrothermal synthesis, and coated with TiO2 ZnO nanofilms atomic layer deposition. Subsequently, through burning out the carbon core templates hollow metal oxide obtained. The substrates, carbon-metal composites characterized TG/DTA-MS, FTIR, Raman, XRD, SEM-EDX, TEM-SAED their photocatalytic activity was also investigated. results indicate that CNSs are not beneficial for photocatalysis, but crystalline have considerable activity.
Although the general geomorphology is reasonably well understood, not much information available on incision rates of rivers and related tectonic uplift in central parts Balkan Peninsula. Caves lower part Crna Reka drainage (N. Macedonia) provide possibility to reconstruct Neogene-Quaternary evolution this area, as previous research has identified two major cave development phases: one Pliocene-Early Pleistocene basin infilling establishment lacustrine environments, a subsequent phase valley...
The end-Triassic extinction (ETE) ranks as one of the 'Big Five' biotic crises Phanerozoic and is thought to be triggered by volcanism Central Atlantic Magmatic Province (CAMP). However, proximal causes factors responsible for delayed recovery remain debated. Here we use uranium isotopes geochemical models constrain evolution global seafloor anoxia during latest Triassic earliest Jurassic. We document a major negative isotope anomaly from carbonates in western Tethyan continuous marine...
Rationale Complete decomposition of silicate rock matrices is crucial in determining their isotopic compositions, but acid dissolution a high‐pressure steel‐jacketed bomb, which has been the only powerful, effective technique thus far, time‐consuming and expensive. Rock using ammonium bifluoride (ABF), as described here, viable alternative. Methods Geological reference materials (GRMs) were digested ABF closed Teflon beakers at temperatures 220/230°C convection oven subsequently treated with...
Core-shell carbon-TiO2 composite and hollow TiO2 nanospheres were prepared using carbon as hard-templates, coating them with atomic layer deposition, subsequent burning out of the cores. The bare carbon, characterized TG/DTA-MS, FTIR, XRD SEM-EDX.
During the Pleistocene and Holocene, large-scale climatic changes occurred, resulting in severe environmental changes. Such Carpathian Basin were examined using dental elements of cervids from localities Slovakia Hungary. Their wear stable carbon oxygen isotope values structural carbonate phosphate bio-apatite enamel measured. Dental reflects long short-term past vegetation, analyses can be used to uncover palaeotemperature photosynthetic pathways consumed plants, thus indirectly providing...
Travertine spring mounds are common in Slovakia; however, their age and depositional temperature still poorly known. Our study is the first multimethodological investigation involving stable carbon, oxygen, clumped isotope (Δ47) analyses U-Th determination of travertine from different locations Slovakia (Santovka, Dudince, Čerin, Bešeňová, Liptovský Ján, Liptovské Sliače, Vyšné Ružbachy, Gánovce, Sivá Brada) to provide information about age, origin, precipitation conditions, temperature. The...
Abstract A stalagmite was collected in northern Hungary from the Vacska Cave, where monitoring and ventilation-based site selection had been conducted. The covers 10–8 ka (relative to AD 1950) period, including so-called 8.2 event, showed preceding signs of climate change that were evaluated by petrographic observations, 14 C activities, Sr concentrations, stable isotope compositions calcite inclusion-hosted water. Comparisons speleothem records show peaks at ca. 8.5 are related a regional...
Hydromorphic soils are often characterized by redoximorphic pedofeatures like ferromanganese nodules. As the highly varying properties of nodules sensitive indicators pedogenic processes and redox history soil, their isotopic study may get a deeper insight into soil genesis. In this study, Fe characteristics, fabric, mineralogy formed in six hydromorphic profiles were investigated using MC-ICP-MS, EPMA, XRD analyses. We aimed to relate composition bulk conditions hydromorphism various...
ABSTRACT Excavation campaigns conducted at the Pécel‐Kis hársas site (Hungary) between 2014 and 2017 yielded remains of a mature female woolly rhinoceros ( Coelodonta antiquitatis ) six lithic artefacts. Radiocarbon dating confirmed that died ca. 20.4k cal bp , very end Last Glacial Maximum and, considering position artefacts when found, it was probably killed by Epigravettian hunters. Based on dental analyses specimen, vigorous lichen‐ (and possibly moss‐)consuming diet could be inferred...
Purpose To examine the caries status of pregnant women in southeast Hungary and compare results with a similar study completed same region ten years earlier to determine whether any improvement has taken place past decade. Another objective was assess effects age, socioeconomic number pregnancies on oral health. Materials methods The dental examination 130 carried out at Dental Clinic University Szeged, Faculty Dentistry 2011-2013 (group 1). Caries examined according WHO guidelines. In order...
The end-Triassic mass extinction (ETE) ranks as one of the ’Big Five’ biotic crises in Earth history. processes that led to ecosystem collapse are thought have been triggered by volcanism Central Atlantic Magmatic Province (CAMP). However, there is an ongoing debate about which environmental effect was main trigger for extinction. Our research aimed produce a new uranium isotope dataset from Triassic-Jurassic boundary section Csővár and carry out system...
We present noble gas composition and environmental isotope signature (δ18O, δ2H, δ15NNO3-, 3H) of waters sampled from Lake Ohrid. The lake is one Europe's deepest (max. depth ~288 m) oldest lake, situated in southeastern part the continent at border between Albania North Macedonia. The sampling campaign was summer 2017, when 100 water samples were taken 19 profiles (at depths 5 m, 25 50 150 200 m 250 for stable isotopes, gases, tritium. Samples δ15NNO3-...
Abstract We tested several sample pre-treatment protocols for the study of oxygen isotope ratios in phosphate phase mammalian enamel ten different fossil samples. investigated effect methods and duration hydrogen fluoride treatment on samples from skeletal with known δ 18 O values. The had been measured previously, so we could compare our laboratory previous values to choose best chemical preparation procedure. Four pre-soaking two time intervals 2 mol dm −3 were compared during experiments....

Mineral dust in ice cores provides insight into past atmospheric circulation patterns provided that the source(s) of these aerosols can be identified. Isotopes strontium, neodymium and lead are frequently used for source discrimination cores, while those hafnium much less so. This is because extremely low (1-5 ng) amounts Hf present 5-10 mg samples usually available isotopic analyses from dustiest periods glaciations, e.g. Last Glacial Maximum. The use...

In geosciences, high precision isotope ratio determination provides essential information about processes in geological systems. Novel ambitions evolve closer to biological applications. Copper is an metal for human body taking part of several cellular (e.g. respiratory chain, enzyme function, iron metabolism, elimination reactive oxygen species, cell signalling pathways etc). However, the disorder copper homeostasis causes serious diseases like Wilson disease (Cu...
