Twenty-six patients with cysticercosis of the brain parenchyma were treated antihelmintic agent praziquantel (50 mg per kilogram body weight daily for 15 days). During treatment a strong inflammatory reaction occurred, as evidenced by increased protein and cells in cerebrospinal fluid. This finding correlated headache, exacerbation neurologic symptoms, edema inflammation around cystic lesions. After three months all had improved clinically, 13 percent) asymptomatic. The total number cysts on...

• Seven patients with chronic parenchymal brain cysticercosis were treated albendazole for one month at daily doses of 15 mg/kg body weight. Computed tomographic follow-up studies made the following times: a mean 16 months before trial; beginning treatment; end and three afterward. treatment showed total 157 cysts, last day number had decreased to 39 later, lesions was 22; this represents 86% improvement in cystic lesions. Control same group shown persistence without spontaneous most cases....

High ambient ozone (O3) concentrations are a widespread and persistent problem globally. Although studies have documented the role of forests in removing O3 one its precursors, nitrogen dioxide (NO2), cost effectiveness using peri-urban reforestation for abatement purposes has not been examined. We develop methodology that uses available air quality meteorological data simplified forest structure growth-mortality dry deposition models to assess performance precursor abatement. apply this...

Recent climate change, environmental design, and ecological conservation policies require new existing urban developments to mitigate offset carbon dioxide emissions for cities become neutral. Some North American models tools are available can be used quantify the function of trees. But, little information on tree storage sequestration exists from European Southern Alps. Also, use these in Europe has never been assessed. This study developed a protocol aboveground (C) using subsample trees...

Thirty-five patients with active neurocysticercosis were treated praziquantel and followed for 1 year after therapy. CT CSF analysis showed that 91% of parenchymal cysts improved, 47% chronic arachnoiditis had remission. A single treatment 2 weeks, administered in a daily dose 50 mg/kg body weight, was highly effective cysticercosis but less meningeal cysticercosis. The benefits sustained at least year.

The social, environmental, and economic benefits of urban trees can mitigate many negative aspects the built environment. As such, disparities in tree cover as a result class or racial segregation represent an environmental injustice. Quantifying ecosystem services is increasingly being used to advocate greening sustainability programs. Although some cities have instituted programs promoting planting on public property, these most often take place context rather than addressing structural...

Managing Pinus elliotii forests for timber production and/or carbon sequestration is a common management objective, but can negatively affect water yield due to high losses from evapotranspiration. Thus, understanding the trade-offs and potential synergies among multiple ecosystem goods services, as well drivers influencing these interactions, help identify effective forest practices. We used available data 377 permanent plots USDA Forest Service Inventory Analysis Program 2002–2011, model...
