We present an analysis of the early, rising light curves 18 Type Ia supernovae (SNe Ia) discovered by Palomar Transient Factory and La Silla-QUEST variability survey. fit these early data flux using a simple power law (f(t) = α × tn) to determine time first (t0), hence rise (trise) from peak luminosity, exponent power-law (n). find mean uncorrected 18.98 ± 0.54 d, with individual supernova (SN) times ranging 15.98 24.7 d. The n shows significant departures 'fireball model' 2 (or f(t) ∝ t2)...

The Large Synoptic Survey Telescope is designed to provide an unprecedented optical imaging dataset that will support investigations of our Solar System, Galaxy and Universe, across half the sky over ten years repeated observation. However, exactly how LSST observations be taken (the observing strategy or "cadence") not yet finalized. In this dynamically-evolving community white paper, we explore detailed performance anticipated science expected depend on small changes strategy. Using...

The design and analysis of time-domain sky surveys requires the ability to simulate accurately realistic populations core collapse supernova (SN) events. We present a set spectral time-series templates designed for this purpose, both hydrogen-rich (type II, IIn, IIb) stripped envelope (types Ib, Ic, Ic-BL) supernovae. use photometric spectroscopic data 67 supernovae from literature, each generate template. techniques used build are fully data-driven with no assumption any parametric form or...

We present a search for an electromagnetic counterpart of the gravitational wave source GW151226. Using Pan-STARRS1 telescope we mapped out 290 square degrees in optical i_ps filter starting 11.5hr after LIGO information release and lasting further 28 days. The first observations started 49.5hr time GW151226 detection. typically reached sensitivity limits = 20.3-20.8 covered 26.5% probability skymap. supplemented this with ATLAS survey data, reaching 31% region to shallower depths m~19....

We present photometry and time-series spectroscopy of the nearby type Ia supernova (SN Ia) SN 2015F over $-16$ days to $+80$ relative maximum light, obtained as part Public ESO Spectroscopic Survey Transient Objects (PESSTO). is a slightly sub-luminous with decline rate $\Delta m15(B)=1.35 \pm 0.03$ mag, placing it in region between normal 1991bg-like events. Our densely-sampled photometric data place tight constraints on epoch first light form early-time curve. The spectra exhibit...

Automated route guidance systems, both web-based systems and en-route have become commonplace in recent years. These often replace human-generated directions, which are incomplete, vague, or error. However, directions the ability to differentiate between easy complex steps through language a way that is more difficult automated systems. This article examines set of verbal better understand why some parts perceived as being than remaining steps. Insights from this analysis will lead...

We present a new, large-scale corpus for training and evaluating text summarization systems on legal opinions, called LegalOps. The includes ~ 14K opinions together with their summaries from U.S. Federal Courts, e.g. the Supreme Court Appeals Courts. aim of this paper is to provide novel data source sufficient variety that it will advance theoretical work modeling particular patterns within...

This paper proposes a metric to measure the dissimilarity between graphs that may have different number of nodes. The proposed extends generalised optimal subpattern assignment (GOSPA) metric, which is for sets, graphs. graph GOSPA includes costs associated with node attribute errors properly assigned nodes, missed and false nodes edge mismatches computation this based on finding assignments in two graphs, possibility leaving some unassigned. We also propose lower bound computable polynomial...
