We studied 100 consecutive acute stroke patients in a Chinese population with transcranial Doppler and CT. Twenty had intracerebral hemorrhage 14 did not have adequate temporal windows for examination. Among the remaining 66 patients, 22 (33%) intracranial occlusive diseases 3 (6%) extracranial carotid stenosis. Our data showed that disease is most commonly found vascular lesion our patients.
We studied 590 asymptomatic villagers aged ≥40 years in Liangbei County central rural China and found 41 subjects (prevalence 6.9%) with intracranial atherosclerosis. In a multivariate analysis, the significant risk factors for stenosis were hypertension (OR 2.53; 95% CI 1.12 to 5.72), glycosuria 3; 1.19 7.97), heart disease 4; 1.39 11.6), family history of stroke 5.2; 1.38 20). Intracranial atherosclerosis is not uncommon among Chinese subjects.
Abstract The purpose of this study was to review the clinical manifestations 40 patients who fulfilled criteria for Hirayama disease (juvenile muscular atrophy distal upper extremities), identified in our neuromuscular clinic between February 1995 and December 2005. Of these patients, 87.5% were male. mean age at onset 16.8 years, which 4.5 years later than peak normal growth curve. Progressive muscle weakness wasting characteristic occurred predominantly part right limb. Neurogenic symptoms...
Leukemia is a group of hematologic malignancies that present considerable therapeutic challenges worldwide. Isosakuranetin, 4'-O-methylated flavonoid, possesses various biological properties. However, its potential against leukemia remains unexplored because an incomplete understanding molecular mechanisms. This study investigated the anticancer effects isosakuranetin on cells and elucidated associated signaling pathways. The human cell lines HL-60 U937 were treated with serial...
The purpose of this study was to compare the pattern hand muscle involvement in Hirayama disease (HD) and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).We reviewed findings upper limb nerve conduction studies 46 HD patients 60 ALS patients. from 54 healthy subjects were used for comparison. In HD, ulnar compound action potential (CMAP) amplitude more severely reduced than median one, reverse observed ALS. mean ulnar/median (U/M) CMAP ratio significantly lower (0.64 ± 0.79) abnormally higher (2.15 1.77)...
Abstract Pancreatic cancer is the seventh leading cause of cancer‐related deaths globally. Metformin standard first‐line treatment for hyperglycemia in Type 2 diabetes, whereas pitavastatin a cholesterol‐lowering drug used to prevent cardiovascular diseases. Both these agents evidently exert anticancer effects on pancreatic cancer; however, it remains unclear whether cotreatment using them has additive or synergistic cancer. Thus, we herein ASPC‐1 and PANC‐1 cells treated with metformin...
Magnetic resonance angiography and computed tomography are new, noninvasive methods to provide images of the cerebral vasculature. The reliability magnetic when used grade middle artery stenosis remains be established. We sought study interobserver intraobserver variabilities in grading stenosis.A total 50 arteries 25 patients were studied with angiography. All had a history ischemic stroke. films read independently by two observers on separate occasions. Films shown again same observer 4...
Background Whether a perfusion defect exists in lacunar infarct and whether it is related to early neurological deterioration (END) still under debate. The aim of this study was evaluate END using diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI), diffusion tensor (DTI) MR imaging. Methods One hundred forty-one consecutive patients had an MRI scan within 30 hours after onset symptoms 43 with acute classic syndrome were recruited. sequences included DWI, DTI cerebral blood flow (CBF) maps respectively...
The purpose of this study was to analyze the outcomes and complications between stroke subtypes after intravenous thrombolysis. A total 471 patients with acute ischemic thrombolysis from January 2007 April 2014 were enrolled classified according Trial Org 10172 in Acute Stroke Treatment. multivariate logistic regression model used evaluate among adjusting for baseline variables. Of patients, 117 (25.1 %) had large-artery atherosclerosis (LAA), 148 (31.8 cardioembolism (CE), 82 (17.6 small...
Background: Gouty arthritis is a metabolic disorder associated with several medical diseases and considered as high-risk factor of acute myocardial infarction cardiovascular mortality. Since no study has assessed the frequency gout attack in acute-stroke patients, retrospective analysis gouty stroke patients was performed to identify characteristics hospitalized patients. Methods: We reviewed data 920 admitted neurology ward Chiayi Chang Gung Memorial...
Abstract Butein is a flavonoid isolated from various medicinal plants. It known to have different biological activities including anti‐inflammation, anti‐adipogenesis, and anti‐angiogenesis. In the study, we demonstrated anti‐proliferative effect of butein in human osteosarcoma U‐2 OS cells. Our data showed that significantly suppressed viability colony formation ability Further experiments revealed exposure resulted cell cycle arrest at S G2/M phase Importantly, found activated tumor...
The low-density lipoprotein receptor (LDLR) gene has been reported to be associated with cerebral infarction. This study aimed explore 2 genetic LDLR variants, rs688 and rs5925, for their potential roles in association was conducted within an isolated Taiwanese population; 815 ischemic stroke patients (431 atherothrombotic 384 lacunar infarction) 430 normal controls were enrolled. There no significant difference the frequency of rs5925 between control group overall stroke, or infarct groups....
Intracranial hemorrhage is the third most common cause of cerebrovascular disease. Some polymorphisms that affect clotting factors increase risk thrombosis. However, few reports have analyzed effect on hemostatic state in bleeding disorders. The low-density lipoprotein receptor (LDLR) has been shown to contribute factor VIII (FVIII) homeostasis, which represents a link between LDLR and hemostasis. FVIII plays pivotal role coagulation cascade. Patients with high levels are at an increased...
There has been no report on the use of spiral computed tomography angiography (CTA) in investigation intracranial cerebral artery stenosis. A prospective pilot study was conducted to investigate feasibility CTA diagnosis occlusive disease and its correlation with transcranial Doppler. With Doppler, 10 patients acute ischaemic stroke middle stenosis or occlusion were identified. seven stenoses five occlusions. The confirmed all diagnoses by Doppler except one patient whom embolus had probably...
Background The comparative relationships of widely recognized biomarkers renal injury with short-term and long-term outcomes among critically ill acute stroke patients are unknown. We evaluated the impact baseline albuminuria [urine albumin-creatinine ratio (UACR)≥30 mg/g] or low estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR<60 ml/min per 1.73 m2) on admitted to intensive care unit (ICU). Methods reviewed data consecutive a hospital ICU in Taiwan from September 2007 August 2010 followed-up for...
The role played by hemostasis in the pathogenesis of ischemic stroke is still controversial. In present study, we looked for a possible association with high clotting activity factor VIII (FVIII). study population consisted 116 patients acute who had been admitted between September 2013 and 2014 to Department Neurology, Chiayi Chang Gung Memorial Hospital, 76 control subjects no history stroke. FVIII levels were higher as compared controls (127.5 ± 52.5 vs. 108.4 49.0 IU/dL; P = 0.012)....
