Abstract The sky at MeV energies is currently poorly explored. Here we present an innovative mission concept that builds upon the heritage of past and current missions improving sensitivity and, very importantly, angular resolution. This consists in combining a Compton telescope coded-mask telescope. We delineate motivation for such define scientific goals mission. Galactic Explorer with Coded Aperture Mask Telescope (GECCO) novel next-generation covering hard X-ray soft gamma-ray energies....

Abstract In this paper we will show that photon–photon collision experiments using extreme lasers can provide measurable effects giving fundamental information about the essence of QED, its Lagrangian. A possible scenario with two counterpropagating ultra-intense for an experiment to detect scattering between optical photons is analyzed. We discuss importance pulse widths and waists, best overlapping beams signal detection, as well ways distinguish from noise. This would need a...

The ComPair gamma-ray telescope is a technology demonstrator for future called the All-sky Medium Energy Gamma-ray Observatory (AMEGO). instrument composed of four subsystems, double-sided silicon strip detector, virtual Frisch grid CdZnTe calorimeter, CsI:Tl based and an anti-coincidence detector (ACD). CsI calorimeter's goal to measure position energy deposited from high-energy events. To demonstrate technological readiness, calorimeter has flown onboard NASA scientific balloon as part...

The Pierre Auger Observatory (Auger) in Mendoza, Argentina and the Telescope Array (TA) in Utah, USA aim at unraveling origin nature of Ultra-High Energy Cosmic Rays (UHECR). At present, there appear to be subtle differences between TA results and interpretations. Joint working groups have been established already reported preliminary findings. From an experimental standpoint, Surface Detectors (SD) both experiments makes use different detection processes not equally sensitive...

Gadolinium scandium gallium garnet (GSGG) co‐doped with Cr and Nd is the crystalline‐laser material highest measured efficiency (5% absolute) under flashlamp pumping. It presently being developed for a variety of laser applications. We report measurements present crystal quality 1.5 to 2‐inch diameter boules, finding 0.24 m−1 loss coefficient; λ/50 homogeneity in 1/4‐inch by 3‐inch rod; 0.4 nm/cm, birefringence. have evidence that one‐micron absorption band, which appears frequently doped...
