Of 242 patients with carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning examined between 1986 and 1996, parkinsonism was diagnosed in 23 (9.5%). There were 11 men 12 women. The age at onset ranged from 16 to 69 (mean 45.8) years, the peak incidence during 6th decade. latency before appearance of varied 2 26 (median 4) weeks, but developed within 1 month after an acute insult majority patients. All showed encephalopathy mildly severely impaired cognitive functions or immediately delayed CO sequelae. common...
In eight patients with unilateral pontine and midbrain lesions, brainstem auditory evoked potentials (BAEPs) were studied ipsilateral (Cz-Ai) contralateral (Cz-Ac) recordings after monaural stimulation. all cases, the most prominent abnormality was noted in BAEP generated by stimulating ear to lesions. The Cz-Ai Cz-Ac patterns showed similar abnormalities five of dissociated two patients. We conclude that: (1) Lateralization is possible (2) Monaural stimulation essential for lateralization....
Purpose: To evaluate whether intraoperative neurophysiologic monitoring (IONM) with combined muscle motor evoked potentials (mMEPs) and somatosensory is useful for more aggressive safe resection in intramedullary spinal cord tumour (IMSCT) surgery.Materials Methods: We reviewed data from consecutive patients who underwent surgery IMSCT between 1998 April 2012.The were divided into two groups based on or not IONM was applied. In the monitored group, procedures performed under using 75%...
Of 242 patients with carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning examined between 1986 and 1996, delayed movement disorders were diagnosed in 32 (13.2%). There 15 men 17 women. Ages at insult ranged from 9 to 69 years (mean 45.3 years). the disorders, 23 (71.9%) had parkinsonism, 5 dystonia, 3 chorea 1 myoclonus. All associated CO encephalopathy. The median latency onset of was 4 weeks for 51 8 dystonia after longer than that other types disorders. CT findings variable, there no correlation sites imaging...
Nine patients with intracranial pachymeningeal thickening and enhancement on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) completed a short-term clinical MRI follow-up study. Based pictures, 4 of them were found to have spontaneous hypotension (SIH) the remaining 5 had idiopathic pachymeningitis (IIP). Both groups compared regarding their characteristics. In SIH, gadolinium-enhanced T1-weighted images (WI) showed diffuse even entire spinal dura mater. These thickened was slightly...
Of 129 patients with carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning, 62(48.0%) had characteristic computed tomographic (CT) findings. The most common finding, seen in 42 patients, was low-density the cerebral white matter, and second feature, 33 both globus pallidi. Abnormal CT findings tended to increase accordance duration of unconsciousness during acute CO but such occurred even when mental state clear illness. prognosis poisoning depended on lesions matter rather than those pallidus. There also seemed...
The inferolateral trunk (ILT) of the internal carotid artery (ICA) is a branch that arises inferiorly from C4 segment cavernous ICA. It provides blood supply to 3rd, 4th, and 6th cranial nerves, as well gasserian ganglion. ILT anastomoses branches maxillary artery, providing collateral circulation between external ICA systems. Retinal cerebral emboli can arise system travel via Cranial nerve palsies may result after occlusion ILT. We present cases four patients who had iatrogenic...
Abstract Background To evaluate paraspinal back muscles of asymptomatic subjects using qualitative and quantitative analysis on CT MRI correlate the results with demographic data. Methods Twenty-nine were enrolled prospectively (age: mean 34.31, range 23–50; 14 men, 15 women) from August 2016 to April 2017. Qualitative was done Goutallier’s system MRI. Quantitative entailed cross sectional area (CSA) MRI, Hounsfield unit (HU) CT, fat fraction two-point Dixon technique Three readers...
Objective: To demonstrate the non-inferiority of novel hemostatic agent, Hemofence ® (BMI Korea Co. Ltd., Jeju Korea, thrombin cross-linked sodium hyaluronate gel matrix) compared to established Floseal Hemostatic Matrix (Baxter, thrombin-gelatin in achieving hemostasis for spinal surgeries, with secondary objectives assess additional efficacy and safety. Methods: This clinical trial was a multicenter, randomized, subject-blinded, active-controlled, parallelgroup, phase 3...
In the evolving landscape of spinal surgery, technological advancements play a pivotal role in enhancing surgical outcomes and patient experiences. This paper delves into cutting-edge technologies underpinning endoscopic spine surgery (ESS), specifically highlighting innovations scope cameras, RF equipment, drills. The modern camera, with its capability for high-resolution imaging, offers surgeons unparalleled visualization, enabling precise interventions. Radiofrequency (RF) equipment has...
Using brain computed tomography (CT) and single photon emission (SPECT) with technetium-99m hexamethylpropylene amine oxime (99mTc HM-PAO) in 13 patients delayed neurologic sequelae after carbon monoxide poisoning, we tried to evaluate the clinical outcome of CO sequelae. Among initial CTs, seven showed low density cerebral white matter one revealed hypodensity both globi pallidi. Of 7 follow-up CT scans, 3 have remained unchanged, but 4 cases more aggravating patterns cortical atrophy...
Hypertrophic cranial pachymeningitis (HCP) is a rare inflammatory disease of unknown origin in which recurrence frequently observed spite the initial response to steroid therapy. Three patients, 1 man and 2 women, aged 63, 66, 67 years, with severe intractable headache were evaluated by brain MRI. All patients initially given prednisolone (60 mg/day, oral) or dexamethasone (20 i.v.), followed long-term (at least year) azathioprine follow-up laboratory tests MRI study, completed 2-year...
Spinal cord injury (SCI) is one of the most devastating conditions and many SCI patients suffer neurological sequelae. Stem cell therapies are expected to be beneficial for with central nervous system injuries, including SCI. Adult stem cells (ASCs) not associated risks which embryonic have such as malignant transformation, or ethical problems, can obtained relatively easily. Consequently, researchers currently studying effects ASCs in clinical trials. The environment transplanted applied...
Dumbbell-shaped spinal extradural cavernous hemangioma is rare. The differential diagnosis of dumbbell-shaped tumors based on magnetic resonance imaging includes schwannoma and lymphoma. Here, we report a with intrathoracic growth T2-3 in 64-year-old man complaining right side infrascapular area back pain no neurologic deficit. was resected through combined video-assisted thoracoscopy laminectomy without fusion procedure. patient had tolerable operative wound deficit after surgery. Based...
This study aimed to develop a deep learning (DL) algorithm for automated detection and localization of posterior ligamentous complex (PLC) injury in patients with acute thoracolumbar (TL) fracture on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) evaluate its diagnostic performance. In this retrospective multicenter study, using midline sagittal T2-weighted image (± PLC injury), training dataset internal external validation sets 300, 100, 100 patients, were constructed equal numbers injured normal PLCs....
