Abstract Objectives To determine the prevalence of chromosomal abnormalities in fetuses with open neural tube defects (NTD) undergoing prenatal chromosome analysis. The role ultrasound detecting those an underlying abnormality was also investigated. Methods Over a 6‐year period, 144 NTD underwent analysis between 12 and 37 weeks gestation, as part prospective, multicenter diagnosis counseling program Chile. This population included 66 spina bifida, 46 acrania/anencephaly, 21 cephalocele 11...
To determine the value of color flow imaging in prenatal differentiation solid placental masses protruding from fetal surface placenta.Seven pregnancies which a large mass was seen on placenta were prospectively studied. Color used to identify vessels within and ultrasound finding correlated with pathology.Postpartum examination revealed four cases chorioangioma, two subchorionic thrombohematoma one case subamniotic hematoma. Prenatal using correctly identified all chorioangioma by...
Objectives Prenatal diagnosis of central nervous system (CNS) anomalies by 2‐dimensional sonography is challenging because difficulties in obtaining complete visualization the fetal brain during routine examinations, which necessary for identification its axial, coronal, and sagittal planes. Three‐dimensional (3D) has been introduced as a tool studying CNS ability to facilitate examinations brain. The objective this study was determine inter‐center agreement diagnosing defects review 3D...
Abstract In order to assess the role of power Doppler ultrasound in prenatal diagnosis sirenomelia, findings two fetuses with sirenomelia sequence and seven bilateral renal agenesis were reviewed compared. Both conditions characterized by absence vessels. However, common iliac arteries always visualized agenesis, whereas distal branching main abdominal vessel was a characteristic feature sirenomelia. Power allows expeditious identification absent or non‐functional severe oligo‐hydramnios....
The purpose of this report is to describe the prenatal sonographic findings in fetuses with hydranencephaly diagnosed during early stages disease. Four cases characteristics were retrospectively identified from 2 Latin American fetal medicine referral centers. Information on maternal demographics, findings, antenatal courses, and pregnancy outcomes was retrieved ultrasound reports medical records. Cases between 21 23 weeks' gestation. similar all included absent cerebral hemispheres, which...
Abstract Aneurysm of the umbilical artery is an extremely rare anomaly cord, with only two cases being documented in English language literature. We report three diagnosed prenatally by ultrasound third trimester, all associated single and multiple structural fetal anomalies. Prenatal karyotyping revealed trisomy 18 cases. Umbilical cord anomalies, although rare, are significant morbidity mortality. This identifies aneurysm as additional prenatal feature 18. Copyright © 2003 ISUOG. Published...
Objective: To report a multicenter experience with intrafetal alcohol chemosclerosis in the treatment of pregnancies complicated twin reversed arterial perfusion sequence. Methods: Percutaneous injection 1– 2 ml absolute into intra-abdominal segment single umbilical artery was performed 8 acardiac twins. Cases were collected from 5 centers following standardized protocol. The procedure under continuous ultrasound control, using color Doppler to identify...
Iniencephaly is a rare malformation characterized by the triad of occipital bone defect, cervical dysraphism and fixed retroflexion fetal head. Because its almost invariable lethal prognosis, termination pregnancy commonplace when this condition diagnosed before viability. In report we describe eight cases iniencephaly prenatally ultrasound between 18 28 weeks gestation discuss subsequent obstetric management in country where elective abortion illegal. Prenatal karyotyping was performed...
The objective of this study was to describe the prenatal sonographic and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) findings, antenatal course, pregnancy outcome in fetuses diagnosed as having thrombosis torcular herophili.Retrospective review cases collected from five fetal medicine referral centers.Eight that were prenatally by ultrasound between 22 32 weeks gestation reviewed. Seven further evaluated with MRI. Associated findings included superior sagittal sinus dilatation all ventriculomegaly two...
To determine the historical aspects, current availability, and clinical outcomes of open intrauterine repair spina bifida aperta (IRSBA) in Spanish-speaking Latin American countries.Cases were collected from centers with at least 2 years experience a minimum 10 IRSBA interventions by December 2020. Clinical variables compared to results Management Myelomeningocele Study (MOMS) trial.Clinical 314 cases seven was reviewed. Most (n = 189, 60.2%) performed between 24 25.9 weeks' gestation....
Objective: To report the experience with prenatal repair of open spina bifida (OSB) from 2 centers in Chile. Methods: Women a second-trimester fetus OSB were offered intrauterine neurosurgical following protocol Management Myelomeningocele Study (MOMS) trial. Pediatric follow-up infants reaching 12 and 30 months life was also reviewed. Results: Fifty-eight fetuses underwent at an...
The case recently reported by Quintero et al.1 highlights the complexity of some currently available options for treatment acardiac twins. These authors used remote broadband telemedicine to guide a fetoscopic umbilical cord laser occlusion an twin, which took almost 2 h complete. It is obvious that simpler, cheaper and more widely techniques occlude circulation twins are urgently needed. This issue even relevant in centers developing countries, frequently do not have proper equipment nor...
Objective: To describe the use of a self-retaining thermoplastic polyurethane wound retractor for management hysterotomy during prenatal repair myelomeningocele. Methods: The preliminary experience with 16 consecutive cases open surgery myelomeningocele using new technique is presented. Under general anesthesia, gravid uterus was partially exteriorized through low transverse abdominal incision and high 3–4-cm midline vertical mini-hysterotomy performed. After chorioamniotic membranes were...
Background: Prenatal differential diagnosis of fetal scalp cystic masses is challenging and mainly includes small meningoceles epidermal cysts. Case: A second-trimester anatomy scan revealed an extracranial mass measuring 17 × 12 10 mm in the occipital region. Three-dimensional datasets were obtained transabdominally off-line analysis a connection between cyst subarachnoid space through 5-mm skull defect. The meningocele was further confirmed by magnetic...
X-linked hydrocephaly is a rare sex-linked genetic recessive condition occurring in 1/30,000 deliveries. Adduction of thumbs and mental retardation are additional associated clinical findings. We describe two cases with adducted that were diagnosed prenatally the combined use three-dimensional (3D) ultrasound fetal blood sampling for cytogenetic molecular analyses. This report suggests 3D can facilitate identification fetuses affected by supports evaluation hands as an integral part...
To review the prenatal complications, management, and perinatal outcome in pregnancies complicated by placental chorioangioma (PCA). Cases of PCA diagnosed prenatally as part a prospective, multicentric program for fetal diagnosis therapy were identified. All cases evaluated with color flow imaging. In latter study, three-dimensional sonography, including power-Doppler angiography, was also used to study vascular pattern tumor. Information on maternal demographics, sonographic findings,...
