The principal metabolic effect of metformin-an oral antihyperglycaemic agent-is the improvement in sensitivity peripheral tissues and liver to insulin. This study examined metformin monotherapy on antioxidative defence system activity erythrocytes plasma diabetic patients. We studied treatment activities Cu, Zn-superoxide dismutase (EC 1. 15. 1.), catalase 11. 6.) glutathione peroxidase 9.) relation lipid peroxidation products reduced level erythrocytes. In this we also erythrocytes'...
Many European countries' epidemiological data on burns were analyzed. This research aimed to analyze the key characteristics of hospitalized burn patients in Serbia's major unit over 10 years, as well create very first national dataset with basic requirements for future studies. A retrospective cross-sectional study was conducted, and demographic, clinical, characteristics, predictors mortality, total 996 included. The mean age population 54.65 ± 27.15 years. Regarding etiology, flame most...
Background/Objectives: Integra Dermal Regeneration Template (IDRT) has emerged as a viable reconstructive option in exposed avascular structures, such bone devoid of periosteum. This systematic review aimed at examining success rates by comparing different wound types and their characteristics, well the surgical methods involved. Methods: A was conducted to identify studies using IDRT reconstruction defects with Primary outcomes interest were skin graft rates, followed patient used. The...
The hyomental distance ratio (HMDR) is the between (HMD) (the hyoid bone and tip of chin) at extreme head extension (HMDe) one in neutral position (HMDn). objective study was to examine predictive value, sensitivity, specificity HMDe, HMDn, HMDR predicting difficult endotracheal intubation (DI). A prospective included 262 patients that underwent elective surgical operations. following parameters were observed as possible predictors DI: HMDR, Mallampati score, body mass index (BMI). cut-off...
State of severe oxidative stress is encountered in sepsis. Paraoxonase 1 (PON1) protects against but also undergoes inactivation upon that condition. We investigated PON1 activity surgical patients with sepsis relation to status, inflammation, disease severity, and survival. Prospective observational study. Sixty-nine were compared 69 age/sex matched healthy controls. paraoxonase diazoxonase activities, selected biochemical, hematological parameters measured on admission ICU 24, 48, 72, 96...
Background: Follicular thyroid carcinoma (FTC) is categorized into three groups: minimally invasive FTC (MIFTC), encapsulated angioinvasive (EAIFTC), and widely (WIFTC). the second most common type of tumor, though it remains relatively rare in general population. This study aimed to examine prognosis prognostic factors patients with follicular carcinoma. Methods: Data were obtained from a tertiary referral center for 130 patients, covering period 1995 2020. Clinical data included...
Summary Hemiballism is a relatively rare hyperkinetic disorder; treatment based mainly on neuroleptics and drugs that decrease release of dopamine. We report the cases two patients with hemiballism. After period 1 month nonresponsiveness to haloperidol, amelioration ballistic movements was observed only few days after initiation clozapine therapy (50 mg/day). Our suggests may be valuable alternative for
Objective: To investigate the incidence and identify risk factors for occurrence of intraoperative hypertension (IOH) during surgery primary hyperparathyroidism (pHPT). Subjects Methods: The study included 269 patients surgically treated between January 2008 2012 pHPT. IOH was defined as an increase in systolic blood pressure ≥20% compared to baseline values which lasted 15 min. investigated influence were...
Background and Objectives: The careful selection of adequate SLNB candidates not only aims at reducing the surgical risk while identifying SLN metastasis, but also plays a crucial role in patients eligible for adjuvant therapy. purpose our study was to investigate clinical histologic aspects primary melanomas that correlate with likelihood positive result. Materials Methods: A total 101 melanoma who underwent sentinel lymph node biopsies were included study. General patient demographics...
We studied the influence of demographic characteristics, comorbidity, and type duration surgery anesthesia on occurrence intraoperative hypertension (IOHTA). Logistic regression analyses were used in order to determine predictors IOHTA. More than 60% our patients had Multivariate analysis showed that independent for IOHTA older age, BMI 25 kg/m2, as a coexisting disease. Hypertension is common during thyroid surgery, significant number remained hypertensive postoperative period.
The aim of the study was to determine survival probability critically ill patients with COVID-19 infection who needed mechanical ventilation and efficacy Tocilizumab use.The designed as a retrospective analysis consecutive older than 18 years, treated in an intensive care unit. criteria for admission unit severe respiratory failure requiring ventilation. All received corticosteroid therapy (methylprednisolone 1-2 mg/kg). used at dose 8 mg/kg form disease (onset, or developed ARDS), followed...
Background: Burn wound dressing and debridement are excruciatingly painful procedures that call for appropriate analgesia—typically multimodal. Better post-procedural pain management, less opioid use, consequently fewer side effects, which could prolong recovery increase morbidity, all benefits of this type analgesia. Intravenously administered ketamine can be effective as monotherapy or in combination with opioids, especially procedural sedation such burn dressing. Methods: This...
Aim: Papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) is a well differentiated, highly curable cancer, with wide variety of histological forms. Although most these variants are indolent, aggressive PTC have been described. These include tall cell variant (TCV), hobnail (HV), columnar (CCV), diffuse sclerosing (DSV) and solid (SV). Solid represents one the rarest forms papillary carcinoma, an incidence about 2.6% according to retrospective studies. Methods: In this study, data all patients that underwent...
Introduction: Before the discovery of antimycotics powerful enough to penetrate hair follicle, use X ray radiation was a worldwide accepted method for scalp epilation as part treatment tinea capitis in children. More than five decades later, consequences ringworm therapy became evident and included high rates recurrent aggressive forms non-melanoma skin tumors, brain tumors meningiomas, well osteoradionecrosis. Scalp reconstruction presents challenge due unique anatomic characteristics...
Background/Objectives: Anesthesia plays a very important role in the successful management of intraoperative neuromonitoring (IONM). The aim our study was to investigate impact anesthesia induction and maintenance on quality signals during surgeries thyroid parathyroid glands using neuromonitoring. Methods: included 72 patients who underwent surgery with IONM for one year. All were intubated Glidescope videolaryngoscope hyperangulated blade. Two different approaches used facilitate...
Introduction/Objective. Frostbite is a cold-induced injury of the tissue caused by freezing intraand extracellular water, and characterized thrombosis ischemic necrosis. Although individual, socioeconomic, environmental factors are all considered fundamental determinants human health in general, their role occurrence frostbite remains largely unknown. The aim this study was to examine associations among these for patients Belgrade, Serbia. Methods. We investigated total 24 that were...
Introduction/Objective. Intraoperative variations in blood pressure and/or cardiac dysrhythmias (IOVBP/CD) represent one of the most common causes morbidity and mortality surgical patients. The aim study was to determine incidence risk factors for IOVBP/CD thyroid surgery patients with comorbidities. Methods. included 1252 euthyroid ASA 2 3 status who underwent surgery. following were examined: gender, age, body mass index (BMI), status, admission diagnoses, type operation, duration surgery,...
