Context. The Neel IRAM KIDs Array (NIKA) is a fully-integrated measurement system based on kinetic inductance detectors (KIDs) currently being developed for millimeter wave astronomy. In first technical run, NIKA was successfully tested in 2009 at the Institute Millimetric Radio Astronomy (IRAM) 30-meter telescope Pico Veleta, Spain. This prototype consisted of 27-42 pixel camera imaging 150 GHz. Subsequently, an improved has been and October 2010 Veleta telescope. instrument upgrades...

Context. Current generation millimeter wavelength detectors suffer from scaling limits imposed by complex cryogenic readout electronics. These instruments typically employ multiplexing ratios well below a hundred. To achieve greater than thousand, it is imperative to investigate technologies that intrinsically incorporate strong multiplexing. One possible solution the kinetic inductance detector (KID). assess potential of this nascent technology, prototype instrument optimized for 2...

We report an intrinsic relation between the mean exponential growth factor of nearby orbits (MEGNO) and fast Lyapunov indicator (FLI), two variational methods that have been widely applied to stability issues in astronomy. For both continuous-time discrete-time systems, we arrive at analytic formula expresses MEGNO terms FLI its time-average. This connection, unknown for more than 10 years, allows us understand differences similarities performance indicators.

The reader can find in the literature a lot of different techniques to study dynamics given system and also, many suitable numerical integrators compute them. Notwithstanding recent work Maffione et al. (2011a) for mappings, detailed comparison among widespread indicators chaos general is still lacking. Such could lead select most efficient algorithms certain dynamical problem. Furthermore, order choose appropriate them, more comparative studies are also needed. This deals with both...

The present work revisits and improves the Shannon entropy approach when applied to estimation of an instability timescale for chaotic diffusion in multidimensional Hamiltonian systems. This formulation has already been proved efficient deriving 4D symplectic maps planetary systems, proceeds along layers resonance's web. In this paper we discuss the relevance of diffusive processes in multidimensional Hamiltonian systems. By means a rather simple model, present evidence that for moderate-to-strong chaotic systems stochastic motion remains confined to disjoint domains on energy surface, at least mild times. We show only extremely large timescales and perturbations, does component appear almost fully connected through relics resonance structure. The discussion whether diffusion over surface could actually...
