Provenance of the detrital garnets and spinels from Albian sediments Czorsztyn Unit (Pieniny Klippen Belt, Western Carpathians, Slovakia) According to earlier concepts, (Oravic Superunit, Pieniny Carpathians) sedimented on isolated Swell which existed in Middle Jurassic-Late Cretaceous time realm Outer Carpathians. This paper brings new data providing an alternative interpretation its evolution. They are based heavy mineral analysis Upper Aptian/Lower Unit. rest upon a karstified surface...

Abstract The causes for the Middle to Late Jurassic tectonic processes in Northern Calcareous Alps are still controversially discussed. There several contrasting models these processes, formerly designated “Jurassic gravitational tectonics”. Whereas Dinarides or Western Carpathians ophiolite obduction and a mountain building process with nappe thrusting is widely accepted, equivalent questioned Eastern Alps. For Alps, an Early Cretaceous favoured instead of one, obviously all other features...

D. Plašienka, J. Michalík, Soták & R. Aubrecht comment: In their recent paper, Golonka et al. (2015) described the Cretaceous and Palaeogene olistostromes other types of mass-transport deposits occurring within Pieniny Klippen Belt (PKB) Western Carpathians. After a short introduction into olistostrome concept an overall description PKB structure, authors presented views on composition evolution with as leading phenomenon. Although novel in some aspects, model they present is largely...

ABSTRACT Aubrecht, R., Meres, Š., Gradziński, M. and Sykora, 2012. High (ultrahigh) pressure metamorphic terrane rocks as the source of detrital garnets from Middle Jurassic sands sandstones Cracow Region (Cracow- Wieluń Upland, Poland). Acta Geologica Polonica , 62 (2), 231-245. Warszawa. The (Upper Bathonian/Lower Callovian) Cracow-Wieluń Upland contain with high contents pyrope molecule (30-73 mol %). predominance garnets, inclusions represented mainly by omphacite kyanite, show that were...

Siliceous, opal-A speleothems of the Chimalacatepec lava tube system in central Mexico are characterized here for first time. Morphologically, they can be classified into cylindrical and planar, display a wide array shapes, inner textures, locations within tube. All analyzed composed opal-A, their pores filled with calcite monohydrocalcite. Microscopic examination reveals variety microbial-looking, silicified filaments cell casts embedded micro lamination structures. The abundance biofilms...

Caves in arenites of the Roraima Group Venezuela have been explored on Chimantá and plateaus (tepuis). Geological geomorphological research showed that most feasible method caves genesis was winnowing erosion unlithified or poorly lithified arenites. The arenitic beds were isolated by well-cemented overlying underlying rocks. There is a sharp contrast between these well-lithified rocks loose sands which form to beds. They are only penetrated strongly pillars cemented vertical finger flow...
