The center of diversity for the chordeumatidan millipede family Conotylidae is northwestern North America, where five six subfamilies and ten fourteen previously described genera occur; in this paper, seven additional new 33 species from region are described. New genus Taiyutyla Chamberlin, 1952 are: tillamook, acuphora, amicitia; Bollmanella 1941: bombus, washingtonensis leonardi; Brunsonia Loomis & Schmitt, 1971: pulchra, digitata, wenatchee, chelanoparva, chelanomagna, selwayana...

During the past few years, mariculturists in Panama have been using Onuphid polychaete tube-worm Americonuphis reesei Fauchald (Fauchaid 1973) as a dietary supplement order to accelerate gonad maturation penaeid shrimps Penaeus vannamei Boone and P. stylirostris Stimpson. The success of this has led small fishery worm its export shrimp farmers Ecuador, Belize Guatemala. is frozen fed chopped adult shrimps. The millipede Brachycybe lecontii Wood, 1864 is a fungivorous social known for paternal care of eggs and forming multi-generational aggregations. We investigated the life history, care, chemical defence, feeding behaviour B. provided morphological anatomical descriptions, using light scanning electron microscopy. Based on observations from 13 locations throughout its distribution, we report following natural history aspects. oviposition period lasted mid-April to late June incubation 3-4...

Two species of rock-wallabies occur in New South Wales; the Yellow-footed Rock-wallaby Petrogale xanthopus far west and Brush-tailed penicillata east. Both have contracted distribution abundance across their former range are threatened NSW. The P. population NSW now comprises only two sub-populations. Removal large numbers goats, thought to be primary threat, has not halted wallaby's decline. Fox cat predation is considered major threat. control currently being conducted. undergone...

The crustaceans and molluscs of 65 saltmarshes brackish marshes around the coast Tasmania major Bass Strait islands were surveyed.Over 50 species collected, but only eight (three talitrid amphipods, one crab four gastropods) confined to saltmarshes; typical saltmarsh assemblage consisted two am phi pods, three oniscoid isopods, crabs, prosobranch snails pulmonate snails. The greatest richness was found in from southeast far northwest, where most extensive have developed.Several undescribed...

Surface structures that trap light leading to near complete structural absorption creates an appearance of "super black." Well known in the natural world from bird feathers and butterfly scales, super black has evolved independently various anatomical structures. Due exceptional ability reduce specular reflection, these biological materials have garnered interest optical industries. Here we describe false eyes eyed elater click beetle, which, while not classified as black, still attains...

Aerial counts of Weddell seals during the moult did not provide a useful index population trends. Seals may spent longer foraging in water some years than others (possibly because changes food availability), with result that differing proportions are counted different years. It is concluded little can be inferred about interannual differences sizes without reference to size breeding population.

Abstract Fungivorous millipedes (subterclass Colobognatha) likely represent some of the earliest known mycophagous terrestrial arthropods, yet their fungal partners remain elusive. Here we describe relationships between fungi and fungivorous millipede, Brachycybe lecontii . Their community is surprisingly diverse with 176 genera, 39 orders, four phyla includes several undescribed species. Of particular interest are twelve genera conserved across wood substrates millipede clades that comprise...
