In this study, the use of cotton fiber (CF) as a filler in poly(butylene succinate) (PBS) and effect silane treatment on mechanical properties, thermal stability, biodegradability PBS/CF composites are investigated. The results showed that tensile strength PBS was improved (15%–78%) with incorporation CF (10–40 wt%) further increased (25%–118%) when treated coupling agent. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) observation fracture surfaces there slight improvement fiber-matrix compatibility....

Anaerobic biodegradation tests of poly(lactic acid) (PLA) powder were done at the thermophilic (55 °C) and mesophilic temperature (35 under aquatic conditions [total solid concentrations used sludge 2.07% (at 55 2.24% 35 °C)] using a newly developed evaluation system. With this system, evolved biogas is collected in gas sampling bag atmospheric pressure. This method more convenient than pressure transducer or inverted graduated cylinder submerged water. PLA was degraded about 60% 30 days,...

The catalytic residues of levansucrase (sucrose:2,6-beta-D-fructan 6-beta-D-fructosyltransferase, EC 2.4.1.10) from Zymomonas mobilis were analyzed by random mutation and site-directed mutagenesis. We found that substitution Glu278 with Asp His reduced the k(cat) for sucrose hydrolysis 30- 210-fold, respectively, strongly suggesting plays a key role in catalyzing this reaction. Given likelihood another acidic amino residue was also involved, we constructed variants which acids located within...

We tested the hypothesis that sapling growth following a sudden increase in solar irradiance is related to recovery from photoinhibition and balance between rate of production new leaves abscision old leaves. Leaf gas exchange, chlorophyll fluorescence relative (RGR) stem basal area were measured exposure shade-grown (7% full sunlight) saplings four Shorea species sunlight. Sudden sunlight resulted an immediate substantial reduction dark-adapted quantum yield photosystem II (Fv/Fm), followed...

5,6,13,13a-Tetrahydro-1,9-dihydroxy-2,3,10-trimethoxy-8H-dibenzo[a, g]quinolizine (I), formerly thought to be capaurimine, has been synthesized, but was not identical with natural capaurimine. The 3,9-dihydroxy-1,2,10-trimethoxy-isomer (II) also synthesized previous assignment of the position substituents in capaurimine is therefore incorrect.
