Kaposi sarcoma (KS) can develop following organ transplantation through reactivation of recipient human herpesvirus 8 (HHV-8) infection or donor-derived HHV-8 transmission. We describe 6 cases and KS investigated from July 2018 to January 2020. Organs donors, retrospectively identified as HHV-8-positive, with a history drug use disorder, were transplanted into 22 recipients. Four donors had risk factors for reported in donor questionnaires. The utility of Aspergillus galactomannan (GM) and β-D-glucan (BG) in liver transplant recipients remains uncertain. As part a randomized, double-blind trial antifungal prophylaxis at risk for invasive fungal infections (IFIs), GM BG were assessed 199 patients baseline (enrollment) weekly thereafter the duration study drug. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis was used to evaluate accuracy these diagnosis IFIs.Overall, 46.4% had positive (index ≥ 0.5) 89.6% 80 pg/mL or greater with...
Background: Marijuana use for both medical and recreational purposes is increasing in the US. There a paucity of data on marijuana usage post-liver transplant patients. Methods: This retrospective descriptive study examining patients >18 years age who underwent liver transplantation at University California Los Angeles Medical Center between 1985 to 2019 had positive urine drug screen post-transplant. Exclusion criteria included lack blood chemistries time obtained only before transplant....
Introduction: Orthotopic liver transplantation (OLT) is an effective and life-changing treatment for patients with acute chronic end-stage disease. Although short-term post-OLT survival rates are high, long-term diminish. Post-OLT obesity metabolic syndrome common a major risk factor decreased survival. Glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1 RA) have garnered attention their ability to promote weight loss in overweight obese without diabetes. The purpose of this study was describe...
