The enhanced release of reactive oxygen species from activated neutrophils plays important role in the pathogenesis inflammatory bowel disease. We previously reported that radon inhalation activates antioxidative functions various organs mice. In this study, we examined protective effects on dextran sulfate sodium- (DSS) induced colitis mice which were subjected to DSS for 7 days. Mice continuously treated with air only (sham) or at a concentration 2000 Bq/m³ day before administration end...

We examined dose–dependent or dose rate–dependent changes of superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity using a new large-scale facility for exposing small animals to radon. Mice were exposed radon at concentration 250, 500, 1000, 2000, 4000 Bq/m3 0.5, 1, 2, 4, 8 days. When mice 2000 day•Bq/m3, activation SOD activities in plasma, liver, pancreas, heart, thymus, and kidney showed dose–rate effects. Our results also suggested that continuous exposure increased activity, but transiently returned...

It is well known that cigarette tobaccos contain naturally occurring radioactive nuclides such as (210)Pb and (210)Po. In many countries, the radioactivity of has been measured to estimate effective dose from smoking inhalation. The present study covered 24 brands including top 20 sales in Japan between April 2008 March 2009. activity concentrations were by gamma-ray spectrometry, then those its progeny ((210)Po) evaluated assuming equilibrium two nuclides. ABSTRACT Radon therapy using radon (222Rn) gas is classified into two types of treatment: inhalation and drinking water containing radon. Although short- or long-term intake spa effective in increasing gastric mucosal blood flow, useful for treating chronic gastritis ulcer, the underlying mechanisms precise effects protection against injury are unclear. In present study, we examined protective hot spring on ethanol-induced mice. Mice inhaled at a concentration 2000 Bq/m3 24 h were provided...

We have reported that low-dose, unlike high-dose, irradiation enhanced antioxidation function and reduced oxidative damage. On the other hand, ischemia-reperfusion injury is induced by reactive oxygen species. In this study, we examined inhibitory effects of prior low-dose X-irradiation on in mouse paw. BALB/c mice were irradiated sham or 0.5 Gy X-ray. At 4 hrs after irradiation, left hind leg was bound 10 times with a rubber ring for 0.5, 1, 2 paw thickness measured. Results show swelling...
