Abstract This paper presents definitions of concepts related to speciation elements, more particularly analysis and chemical species. Fractionation is distinguished from analysis, a general outline fractionation procedures given. We propose categorization species according isotopic composition the element, its oxidation electronic states, complex molecular structure. Examples are given methodological approaches used for analysis. A synopsis methodology dynamic also presented.
Deferiprone is an orally active iron-chelation agent that being evaluated as a treatment for iron overload in thalassemia major. Studies animal model showed prolonged associated with decline the effectiveness of deferiprone and exacerbation hepatic fibrosis.
To determine whether the orally active iron chelator deferiprone (1,2-dimethyl-3-hydroxypyridin-4-one) is efficacious in treatment of overload patients with thalassemia major, we conducted a prospective trial 21 unable or unwilling to use standard chelation therapy parenteral deferoxamine.
Abstract This glossary, a revision of the IUPAC "Glossary for Chemists Terms Used in Toxicology" [ Pure Appl. Chem. 65 , 2003 (1993)] incorporating new and redefined terms from Toxicokinetics" 76 1033 (2004)], contains definitions explanatory notes, if needed, frequently used multidisciplinary field toxicology. The glossary is compiled primarily those scientists others who now find themselves working toxicology or requiring knowledge subject, especially hazard risk assessment. Many medical...
Abstract This glossary contains definitions of 365 terms frequently used in the multidisciplinary field toxicokinetics. The is compiled primarily for chemists who find themselves currently working toxicology and requiring a knowledge expressions toxicokinetics, especially relation to hazard risk assessment. Some medical are included, where relevant, because their frequent occurrence toxicological literature would not normally be expected familiar with them. There three annexes, one containing...
We reviewed the linear growth and plate morphology in all children with homozygous beta thalassemia followed Toronto, for whom monthly height percentiles were available before, a 36-month period after, initiation of nightly subcutaneous deferoxamine therapy. All patients less than 7 years age when begun on deferoxamine, had received minimum 36 months. Marked abnormalities metaphyseal readily observed distal ulnar, radial, tibial metaphyses 11 37 significant decline mean percentile was also...
Non-transferrin-bound iron (NTBI) uptake occurs in a variety of cells by saturable, specific and temperaturesensitive process. Our previous studies indicated that NTBI cardiac myocytes Hep 6 2 was reversibly up-regulated deposition. In the present work we have characterized this up-regulation examined its mechanism comparing oxidized (FeS+) ascorbate-reduced (Fez+) forms iron.Iron loading markedly enhanced both presence absence ascorbate, but increment greater when ascorbate absent. This is...
Cadmium is mitogenic under some circumstances and has been shown to cause accumulation of transcripts for several proto-oncogenes in a variety cells, but the mechanism(s) remain be delineated. Here we show that CdCl2 causes an increase c-fos mRNA within 30 min exposure mesangial cells. At 10 μm Cd2+, this persists at least 8 h both rat human The half-life same whether it accumulates following 4 treatment with Cd2+ or induced transiently by phorbol ester. Cycloheximide, which stabilizes...
Cadmium is a toxic metal that initiates both mitogenic responses and cell death. We show Cd 2+ increases phosphorylation activity of Ca /calmodulin‐dependent protein kinase II (CaMK‐II) in mesangial cells, concentration‐dependent manner. Activation biphasic with peaks at 1–5 min 4–6 h. also activates Erk, but this appears to be independent CaMK‐II. At 10–20 μM, apoptosis 25–55% cells by 6 Inhibition CaMK‐II, not suppresses ‐induced apoptosis. conclude activation CaMK‐II contributes apoptotic...
A rapid spectrophotometric assay for sulfated glycosaminoglycans. based on reaction of these compounds with the dye 1.9-dimethylmethylene blue (DMMB), is gaining widespread acceptance. The limitations have not been explored, and we investigated absorption spectra in presence a variety order to understand mechanism colour formation. exhibits classical metachromasia but appears do so by much simpler than other thiazine dyes such as Azure A. Evidence offered support conclusion that dimer reacts...
