(1) Background: The intestinal microbiota plays an essential role in maintaining the host’s health. Dysbiosis of equine hindgut can alter fermentation patterns and cause metabolic disorders. (2) Methods: This study compared fecal composition horses with disease their healthy counterparts living Korea using 16S rRNA sequencing from samples. A total 52 samples were collected divided into three groups: large (n = 20), small 8), 24). (3) Results: Horses diseases had fewer species a less diverse...
(1) Background: The large intestine of horses is an anaerobic fermentative chamber filled with fibrolytic bacteria that play essential roles in digesting and absorbing nutrients for energy production. Although Jeju are a prominent local breed Korea, few studies have investigated the gut microbiota horses; (2) Methods: This study performed sequencing V3 V4 hypervariable regions partial 16S rRNA genes obtained from horse fecal samples compared between Thoroughbred horses. Thirty 24 were...
Thelazia callipaeda (Spirurida, Thelaziidae), a parasitic eye worm causing thelaziasis has been reported in humans and dogs Korea. However, its occurrence other potential reservoir hosts, including wild animals, remains unclear. In the present study, we described 2 cases of from both feral captive animal August November 2017, infections were found third eyelid rescued leopard cat Prionailurus bengalensis reared raccoon dog Nyctereutes procyonoides at Chungnam Wild Animal Rescue Center. A...
This study evaluated the application of BCG Sense1 wearable device for monitoring heart rate (HR) and respiratory (RR) in dogs, comparing its performance to gold standard ECG under awake anesthetized conditions. Data were collected from twelve with six beagles client-owned dogs. Bland–Altman analysis linear regression revealed strong correlations between both conditions (HR: r = 0.97, R2 0.94; RR: 0.78, 0.61, p < 0.001). While slight irregularities noted measurements groups, potentially...
Case summary In cats, polyuria (PU) and polydipsia (PD) are defined as a urine specific gravity (USG) consistently <1.035 water consumption >100 ml/kg/day. A 2-year-old castrated male domestic shorthair cat with PU/PD was brought to our hospital. Diagnostic tests for included physical examination, blood analyses (complete count, serum chemistry profile, electrolytes, ionised calcium, symmetric dimethylarginine thyroxine concentration), thoracic radiography, abdominal ultrasound...
Anaplasma spp. are tick-borne Gram-negative obligate intracellular bacteria that infect humans and a wide range of animals. capra has emerged as human pathogen; however, little is known about the occurrence genetic identity this agent in wildlife. The present study aimed to determine infection rate profile pathogen wild animals Republic Korea.A total 253 blood samples [198 from Korean water deer (Hydropotes inermis argyropus), 53 raccoon dogs (Nyctereutes procyonoides) one sample each...
Lipoptena deer keds (Diptera: Hippoboscidae) are blood-sucking ectoparasites of mammals, and only one species, cervi (L.), has previously been reported from the Republic Korea. A study Siberian roe Capreolus pygargus Pallas on Jeju Island, south Korean mainland, led to discovery a second species ked, fortisetosa Maa, for In total, 518 were collected 19 adult juvenile examined May October 2012. The infestation all occurrence newly born suggest high prevalence abundance L. parasitizing...
Abstract This case report details the clinical presentation, diagnosis, management and prognosis of paroxysmal dyskinesia (PD) in four small‐breed dogs, each weighing under 6 kg: A 7‐year‐old spayed female Pomeranian, an 8‐year‐old mixed breed, a 1‐year‐old Pomeranian 9‐year‐old castrated male Poodle. These dogs were referred to our hospital due movement disorders. Diagnosis was facilitated by video recordings episodes, assessing motor activity, consciousness, episode duration, any pre‐ or...
The present study aims to confirm the influence of a horse-riding lesson program (HRLP) on stress level horses and riders by respectively analyzing their salivary cortisol concentration. Twenty-four healthy 23 participated in this study. were randomly classified into two groups for horse riding program: Class 1 (for beginner lesson) 2 intermediate lesson). group consisted 12 riders, while 11 riders. Salivettes cotton wool swabs used saliva collection analyses conducted using two-way analysis...
Piroplasms are tick-transmitted, intracellular, hemoprotozoan parasites that cause anorexia, fever, anemia, and icterus.Theileriosis is caused by Theileria sergenti causes major economic losses in grazing cattle Japan Korea. In May 2003, we examined the antigenic diversity of piroplasm surface protein (MPSP) gene 35 healthy Jeju black were born raised at National Institute Subtropical Agriculture. On microscopic examination Giemsa-stained blood smears, 9 had intra-erythrocytic...
The changes in physiologic parameters by swim exercise duration were examined five female well-trained Jeju crossbred riding horses that had experience of more than three years without training experience. performed with for 10 min (60.0 m/min) once a day 14 days. Physiologic characteristics and haematic measured before swimming, immediately after rest at first (D0), 7 days (D7), (D14) training. After training, heart rate (p<0.05), blood glucose lactate concentration (p<0.001), packed cell...
Exercise plays an important role in regulating energy homeostasis, which affects the diversity of intestinal microbial community humans and animals. To best authors’ knowledge, few studies have reported associations between horse gut microbiota along with their predicted metabolic activities athletic ability Jeju horses Thoroughbreds living Korea. This study was conducted to investigate association performance horses. sequenced V3 V4 hypervariable regions partial 16S rRNA genes obtained from...

Abstract Background Q fever, a zoonosis caused by Coxiella burnetii , has adverse effects on public health. Ticks are vectors of C. and they contribute to the transmission pathogen. A tool for rapid, sensitive, accurate detection from ticks is important prevention fever. Methods Ultra-rapid real-time PCR (UR-qPCR) as chip-based system was developed ticks. The UR-qPCR established evaluated rapidity, sensitivity, specificity detection. Results detected using 5644 larval, nymphal, adult 408...
