We performed an observational study to investigate intensive care unit incidence, risk factors, and outcomes of coronavirus disease-associated pulmonary aspergillosis (CAPA). found 10%-15% CAPA incidence among 823 patients in 2 cohorts. Several factors were independently associated with 1 cohort mortality rates 43%-52%.

Abstract Background Invasive aspergillosis (IA) by a triazole-resistant Aspergillus fumigatus is associated with high mortality. Real-time resistance detection will result in earlier initiation of appropriate therapy. Methods In prospective study, we evaluated the clinical value AsperGenius polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assay hematology patients from 12 centers. This PCR detects most frequent cyp51A mutations A. conferring azole resistance. Patients were included when computed tomography...

Fast diagnosis of invasive pulmonary aspergillosis (IPA) is essential as early adequate therapy improves survival. However, current microbiological methods suffer from a low sensitivity or long turnaround time, often result batching. Recently, two lateral flow assays for diagnosing IPA have been CE (Conformité Européenne)-marked and commercialized. These can be used fast single sample testing. clinical validation comparative studies are lacking. We therefore sought to evaluate compare these...

Galactomannan (GM) testing of bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) fluid samples has become an essential tool to diagnose invasive pulmonary aspergillosis (IPA) and is part diagnostic guidelines. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISAs) (enzyme immunoassays [EIAs]) are commonly used, but they have a long turnaround time. In this study, we evaluated the performance automated chemiluminescence immunoassay (CLIA) with BAL samples. This was multicenter retrospective study in Netherlands Belgium. were...

pneumonia (PCP) is an AIDS-defining illness. In patients with HIV, the benefit of PCP prophylaxis well-defined when CD4 T-cell count decreases below 200 cells/μL. other immunocompromised patients, value not always as well-established. This study aimed to describe epidemiology in recent years and assess how many did or receive month preceding infection.

Abstract Background Invasive pulmonary aspergillosis (IPA) is an increasingly recognized complication in intensive care unit (ICU) patients, especially those with influenza, cirrhosis, chronic obstructive disease, and other diseases. The diagnosis can be challenging, the ICU, where clinical symptoms as well imaging are mostly nonspecific. Recently, Aspergillus lateral flow tests were developed to decrease time of IPA. Several studies have shown promising results bronchoalveolar lavage fluid...

Invasive pulmonary aspergillosis (IPA) is a potentially lethal infection in patients with hematological diseases or following allogeneic stem cell transplantation. Early diagnosis essential, as delayed treatment results increased mortality. Recently, lateral flow device (LFD) for the of IPA was CE marked and made commercially available by OLM Diagnostics. We retrospectively analyzed bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALf) collected from adult hematology 4 centers The Netherlands Belgium....

Induction chemotherapy for acute myeloid leukemia (AML) or myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) is almost universally complicated by febrile neutropenia(FN). Empirical broad-spectrum antibiotic therapy (EBAT) strategies advocated guidelines result in long periods of therapy. We compared the outcome AML/MDS patients treated with a 3-day versus prolonged (until neutrophil recovery) regimen. This retrospective comparative cohort study AML MDS undergoing remission-induction from 2011 to 2019, comparing...

The use a multiplex polymerase chain reaction (PCR) targeting species DNA as well two most prevalent azole resistance- associated mutations (RAMs) cyp51A gen (TR34/L98H TR46/Y121F/T289A) could shorten time to detect IA.
