To remove trace cisplatin from aqueous solution, commercial sponges were functionalized by esterification with 3-mercaptopropionic acid, followed reduction Na2S·9H2O or SnCl2·2H2O. The resulting thiol-functionalized (TFSs), TFS_1 and TFS_2, tested for the removal of (235 μg L-1) achieving maximum 95.5±0.8% 99.5±0.1% respectively, which significantly higher than non-functionalized counterpart. successful grafting thiol groups, verified through FTIR, elemental analysis, SEM-EDS, XPS...

The impact of selenium (Se) enrichment on bioactive compounds and sugars Se speciation was assessed different microgreens (green pea, red radish, alfalfa). Sodium selenite sodium selenate at a total concentration 20 μM (1:1) lead to noticeable biofortification (40–90 mg kg–1 DW). In green pea alfalfa, did not negatively phenolics antioxidant capacity, while in significant decrease found. Regarding photosynthetic parameters, notably increased the level chlorophylls carotenoids decreased...

Nowadays there is a great concern on the study of new adsorbent materials for either removal or fixation arsenic species because their high toxicity and health problems associated to such substances. The present paper reports basic adsorption inorganic from aqueous solutions using an open-celled cellulose sponge with anion-exchange chelating properties (Forager Sponge). Consequences preloading Fe(III) enhance selectivity are discussed compared nonloaded properties. interactions...

Metallurgic calcines with very high mercury and methylmercury content from the Almadén mining district were analyzed by synchrotron-based microprobe techniques. Information about speciation was obtained micro-EXAFS (microscopic extended X-ray absorption fine structure) spectroscopy, whereas elemental associations evaluated micro-XRF fluorescence analysis) mapping. Complementary characterization methodologies, including diffraction (XRD), inductively coupled plasma-optical spectroscopy...

The pollution emitted by traffic activities and road maintenance is an area of great interest as contaminants can be transported to roadside sediments pose a risk environmental human health. In the present work, deposited in has been assessed sampling along highly traveled highway Barcelona surrounding area. available amounts heavy metals was determined applying different leaching tests calculating concentration enrichment ratio (CER) guideline values (ECG). To gain information on (HMs)...

In the present work, liposomes have been used as nanocarriers in biofortification of wheat plants with selenium (Se) through foliar application. Liposomal formulations were prepared using 1,2-dipalmitoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine (DPPC) and Phospholipon®90H (P90H) (average size <100 nm), loaded different concentrations inorganic Se (selenite selenate) applied twice to stage vegetative growth. Liposomes enhanced uptake by compared direct The highest enrichment was achieved phospholipid DPPC...

In this study, a commercial cube-shaped open-celled cellulose sponge adsorbent was modified by in-situ co-precipitation of superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (SPION) and used to remove As(V) from aqueous solutions. Fe K-edge X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) TEM identified maghemite as the main phase SPION with an average size 13 nm. Batch adsorption experiments at 800 mg/L showed 63% increase capacity when loading 2.6 wt.% mass fraction in cube-sponge. Experimental determination...

Selenium (Se) is an essential micronutrient, yet its deficiency remains a global concern. This study investigates the biofortification of alfalfa (Medicago sativa cv. ProINTA Super Monarca GR9) via foliar Se application to enhance accumulation and transformation into bioavailable organic forms. A controlled environment experiment in plant growth chamber one-season open-field trial (January 2023, Argentina) were conducted. Treatments included sodium selenate (Se(VI)), selenite (Se(IV)), 1:1...

The mobility, bioavailability and toxicity of mercury in the environment strongly depend on chemical species which it is present soil, sediments, water or air. In mining districts, differences mobility mainly arise from different type mineralization ore processing. this work, synchrotron-based X-ray absorption near-edge spectroscopy (XANES) has been taken advantage to study speciation geological samples three largest European districts: Almadén (Spain), Idria (Slovenia) Asturias (Spain)....
