The antifungal activity of chitosan on a common fungal phytopathogen, Sclerotinia sclerotiorum, and the control effect sclerotinia rot carrot were investigated. Mycelial growth biomass strongly inhibited by chitosan. Using propidium iodide stain combined with fluorescent microscopy, plasma membrane chitosan-treated S. sclerotiorum mycelia was observed to be markedly damaged. Concomitantly, protein leakage lipid peroxidation also found significantly higher in compared control. Chitosan...

Methods to maintain postharvest quality and prolong shelf life of cucumber (Cucumis sativus L.) are sought after, because fruits highly perishable sensitive both ethylene chilling temperatures (below 10C). The authors evaluated the efficacy ionized air treatments delay senescence in cucumber. Fresh cucumbers were stored under either ozone gas (1.112 mg/L) or anion (3 × 106 ion/cm3) for 28 days at 12C 95% relative humidity. Quality-related attributes, including water loss, decay rates,...
