Within EURADOS working group 2, a system for self-sustained intercomparisons individual monitoring services external radiation was developed. With the intercomparison results, participants can show compliance within their quality management system, compare results with those from other and develop plans improvement of system. The costs exercises are covered by fees. In this programme, first exercise whole-body dosemeters has been executed in 2008 62 participating dosimetry systems across...

A glass with a composition (in mole %) of: SiO2 (70), CaO (26), and P2O5 (4) was obtained using sol-gel method. The in vitro bioactivity of the assessed by determining changes surface morphology after soaking simulated body fluid (SBF) for periods up to 14 days at 37°C. X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive spectroscopy, FTIR analyses different SBF demonstrated growth an apatite-like layer on surface. In first stage, amorphous calcium phosphate formed; 7 this...

We report the discovery and characterization of bacteriophages ASegato, DejaVu, Judebell, RicoCaldo, isolated from grass samples collected in Quincy, Massachusetts, using Microbacterium foliorum B-24224 as isolation host. Based on gene content similarity, these phages are assigned to actinobacteriophage clusters ED2, ED1, EG, EK2 respectively.

The organization and dynamics of microtubules (MTs) the actin cytoskeleton are critical for correct development functions neurons, including intracellular traffic signaling. In vitro ethanol exposure impairs endocytosis, exocytosis, nucleocytoplasmic in astrocytes alters endocytosis cultured neurons. astrocytes, these effects relate to changes and/or function MTs cytoskeleton. To evaluate this possibility hippocampal we analyzed if chronic affects levels, assembly, cellular both elements...

Abstract The antioxidant properties and total phenolic compounds of soybean extract fermented with Saccharomyces cerevisiae during 24 h were evaluated. Total polyphenolic extracted in ethanol/water (1:1) solution 789.54 mg/g dry extract, flavonoids 169.47 mg quercetin equivalents/g extract. Reducing power (91.18%) DPPH scavenging (79.30% at 4‐times diluted) excellent, so high as BHA, 92.17% 73.8% respectively, while superoxide anion showed poor inhibition (4876 equivalent SOD U/g)....

Endocytosis is required for many cellular pivotal processes, including membrane recycling, nutrient uptake, and signal transduction. This complex process particularly relevant in polarized cells, such as neurons. Previous studies have demonstrated that alcohol alters intracellular traffic, endocytosis, several cell types. However, information on the effect of chronic exposure this neurons scarce. As an approach, we investigated internalization two widely used endocytic markers, albumin...

Assessment of dose rates with environmental dosimeters typically takes much longer than personal dosimeters. This work compares the results two dosimetry systems aim showing how to use as in case radiological and nuclear emergencies, when processing a large number is essential. For this purpose, long-term study has been carried out on variability response (CaSO4:Tm) (LiF:Mg,Cu,P) corrected for influence secondary cosmic radiation (SCR). Comparison each other provided correlation factor...

Increasing pressures caused by human activities pose a major threat to water availability and quality worldwide. Water resources have been declining in many catchments during recent decades. This study investigated patterns of river status peri-urban/rural catchment Bolivia relation land use 26 year period. Satellite images were used determine changes use. To assess quality, data the dry season from former studies (1991–2014), complemented with newly collected (2017), analysed using National...
