The study aim is to compare cTnI values measured with three high-sensitivity (hs) methods in apparently healthy volunteers and patients admitted emergency department (ED) acute coronary syndrome enrolled a large multicentre study. Heparinized plasma samples were collected from 1511 subjects 8 Italian clinical institutions (mean age: 51.5 years, SD: 14.1 range: 18–65 F/M ratio:0.95). All denied chronic or diseases had normal of routine laboratory tests. Moreover, 1322 heparinized sample also...

Live cell-based assay (CBA) can detect acetylcholine receptors (AChRs) or muscle-specific tyrosine kinase (MuSK) antibodies (Abs) in a proportion of patients with radioimmunoassay (RIA)-double seronegative myasthenia gravis (dSN-MG). A commercial fixed CBA for AChR and MuSK Abs has recently become available; however, comparative studies on live CBAs are lacking. In this study, we compared the performance RIA-dSN MG assessed their sensitivity RIA-positive samples specificity.AChR were tested...

The diagnosis of Cushing's syndrome (CS) represents a challenge for endocrinologists. Several screening tests are used, but none them seems to be the gold standard diagnosis. aim this study was confirm diagnostic value salivary cortisol (SC) as first-level test and evaluate clinical performance electrochemiluminescence immunoassay (ECLIA) method. In 33 patients with strong suspicion CS, we evaluated urinary free cortisol, circadian rhythm plasma (PC) morning PC after low-dose dexamethasone...

Acetylcholine receptor antibody (AChR-Ab) detection is crucial in myasthenia gravis (MG) diagnosis and, currently, the radioimmunoassay (RIA) gold standard. However, RIA may detect AChR-Ab against nonpathogenic intracellular epitopes. In this study, we performed fixed cell-based assay (F-CBA) RIA-AChR-Ab positive subjects without MG symptoms, to assess whether F-CBA could show a higher specificity compared detecting pathogenic Abs.

Background Thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) receptor (TSHR) autoantibodies (TRAbs) are a heterogeneous group of antibodies (Abs) with different functionalities. Among all TRAbs, only the stimulating ones (S-TRAbs) considered as pathogenetic marker Graves' disease (GD). To date, methods available for TRAbs testing based on immunoassays (IMAs) which detect total serum or bioassays not suitable in clinical practice, even though they discern Abs functionality. The aim our work was to evaluate...

Systematic difference between thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) immunoassays may produce misleading interpretation when samples of the same patients are measured with different methods. Atorvastatin, a second generation synthetic 3-hydroxy 3-methylglutaryl-coenzyme-A (HMG-CoA) reductase inhibitor used in the treatment of hypercholesterolemia, reduces both intracellular cholesterol synthesis and serum levels, this could have potential negative impact on gonadal adrenal steroidogenesis. Hypercholesterolemia type 2 diabetes, even when mild, must be treated an aggressive way, due to more strict therapeutic goals than non diabetic population. Since wide use (statins) main aim...

Abstract It is well known that the results of immunoassay methods can be affected by specific or non-specific interferences, ranging from 0.4% to 4.0%. The presence interference may greatly compromise accuracy analyses causing an error in measurement, producing false-positive false-negative results. From a clinical point view, these analytical errors have serious implications for patient care because they cause misdiagnosis inappropriate treatment. Unfortunately, it very difficult task...

OBJECTIVE Hyperthyroidism is associated with increased bone turnover and resorption, but the effects of suppressive doses thyroxine in treating non‐toxic goitre remain unclear. We carried out a longitudinal study to evaluate effect on L ‐thyroxine ( ‐T4) therapy women goitre. SUBJECTS Forty Caucasian women, 19 whom were pre‐menopausal 21 post‐menopausal, studied before after 12 months' ‐T4 for goitre; 40 matched age, body mass index menopausal status used as controls.
